So, what's Predators best butt technolgy?

Well, I decided to do some experimenting with shafts since I have a ton of free time. Decided to get myself a 12.4mm Revo shaft to play with for a while. So it's supposed to be the best that Predator has made.

So, what is the consensus best butt technology Predator has. Many say the butt doesn't matter & for the most part I agree(except for the known fact that I absolutely love the feel of an ivory joint the best). However Predator has several different butt technologies like the p3, c4 & others.

How do you choose what's best with so many options?

Not the C4 for sure. I have an Ikon 3-2 butt and it is ridiculously light on its own, it has two ounces of weight bolts inside to reach the total weight of 19oz for an assembled cue with a 314'3 shaft. It still plays fine to me but clearly the core is made out of something suspectingly lightweight material.
I like the feel of Classico butt better, I believe it is spliced rather than cored, whatever Predator means with the Trusplice technology in it :rolleyes: Classico serie would be my pick from Predator butts. They are available from Seyberts with several different wrap options.

I like Predators 3rd gen shafts a lot but their butts arent the best out there in my opinion :o
 
Well, I'm not sure if we really can call it "technology".

A butt shall provide the preferred balance point, the preferred weight and a good transmission AND at the same time dampening of the vibrations caused by the hit.
It shall dampen harsh, irritating ones and transmit the ones you want to feel in order to judge the hit (clean, starting to slip, too hard, too soft, off center, ...).

As an experiment, take a one piece Snooker house cue and hit a few balls!

It's quite well known from instruments how wood types, "joints" and laminates affect the transmission. Please now don't think Fender or Gibson, but instead Ibanez (3, 5, 7 pieces necks that are rock solid!) or Grand Pianos like Steinway, Bösendorfer, ... that combine wood and brass base plates for the sound and stability.

For all intents and purposes, I don't like inlayed wood butts or a lot of plastics or ivory on the joints (like the classic American butts look, ugh). A lot of the small impulses run on the top of wood (the actually surface) and they get disturbed by all those grooves and inlays.

Again, test with the same shaft on different butts, you will see the light and what you prefer :)

I actually like the Cuetec R360 wood series butt very much with the exceptions that it's a bit to small a diameter. No clue what they exactly did, but it feels very solid, heavy and tingly.

I have Roadlines, an ikon-2-1, a few SP's, LE4 and a an SP2Revo. None is better than the other. The one that you play best with is the best. I'm currently using a Revo 12.9 on a Schon butt with an adaptor.

Doesn't appear all C4s are the same. I have a couple of the C4s both at 19oz with one .75oz weight. I pulled them and prefer the 18.25.
I've tried the P3, True Splice, C4 etc... it really doesn't matter and in a blind test I doubt one could pick them apart.

I have an ikon2 which is nice and a first gen p3 that i love. Evidently the revo p3's have a much slimmer butt diameter. I found the p3 to be pretty forward balanced, just adjusted the weight to my liking and im set. Ive used the p3 with a s-tuned z2, 314 2, and my hands down fav the samsara true shaft that piece of wood gets it.

It used to be thought the P2 was the best, and also the wood to wood sneaky. I've had the C4 technology and thought it just fine.
Actually, I've never had a bad one and have owned 6 or 7 different Predators, 5 different models. Using a Roadline currently.
 
I play with a Throne (c4+) 18.5oz and love the hit, I found the P3 almost too dense with it's 30 piece construction. I'd say take the shaft and try it on a couple of different butts. I also really like their true-splice cues, but am not much for sneaky-petes, though that Classico cue that Kimmo has is pretty slick.
 
At the expo 2 years ago, I purchased the roadline le4 I believe(ebony one) with a 314-3 & vantage shafts. Got rid of the cue fairly quickly.

When I got my revo shaft the other day I didn't have a butt for it so I just didn't get the shaft I purchased the sp2revo which I think has the c4 technology. Played for about 6 hours with it last night & I gotta say it felt great & I was very comfortable with it, which surprised me completely.

This is why I asked about the butt technology because this cue combo feels great but I went the cheapest route with the 899 cue. Just wondered if I should've went with the p3 version maybe expecting something even better.

Don't know how long I will hang on to the cue because I do have 12 customs currently in my collection & 4 more due to be finished this year alone. To be 100% honest, i didn't expect to like it as much as I did & figured I'd sell it fairly quickly but I found myself really enjoying it so far & a couple of shots that I made & saw differences in really impressed me.
 
I played with a 5K3 forever and loved it but switched to a P3 because I was interested. I like the P3 more; however, the C4 technology IMO play like any other cue. They just replaced every part they *could with phenolic to help reduce vibration. I think it hits really good, I just like my P3 more. Hope you figure it out!
 
Roadline series. I have the LE-4 with the weights out and I love it. I feel like a surgeon with it in my hand.
