So...why spend hundreds on a break cue??

It depends on how well the person breaks already and how much more they can get out of a marginal return. If i gambled more, a little extra may be worth it. In the meantime, i can crack a rack pretty well with a bar cue and tend to prefer that over my jnj. Although, i can get good action on a second ball break with the jnj with less power.

Amen to that. And applies to a lot more than pool cues.

+1 my Cadillac gets me to the same place my wife's Honda does . Why did I buy my Cadillac? Because I saw it and had to have it. Simple as that. Yeah the Cadillac has more features but so does my break cue like a pin I can actually find shafts for or interchangeable weight system, low deflection, quality woods and balance not to mention I can actually resell mine for about what I paid for it so technically speaking my break cue is free I can buy it for $350 use it for years and then sell it for $300. Technically that's cheaper than the $70 J&J . Just being technical lol. Just my 2¢

Cause you can..

Life is short. If you have something you enjoy doing and can afford to buy good gear for your hobby then have at it. I have a beautiful jump/break cue made by Pat Diviney. It is Ebony with a couple gold rings and his signature in gold and the year he made it. The shaft is a dark brown Lake Salvage shaft and it and the Ebony wood look great together.

Do I have to have it, heck no. At my skill level any cue with a hard tip would work for me. I won't ever win a break competition, but I do like the looks of my break cue and my friends do to.

I plan on asking Diviney to make me up a jump/break cue with a Dymond wood jump cue I have. But I doubt my breaks will be much better.

It's been my experience that some night your break is just on and some nights no matter what you do it just doesn't work. For the longest time I just broke with my player and it served me just fine. In fact I have tried quite a few breakers every time a friend would get a new one and never saw any difference . I did get away from breaking with my player and just use whatever driftwood wax closest on the wall. Only reason for this change is because I am lazy and I found myself constantly fixing my mushrooming tip as I generally play with the softest I can find lol.

With that being said, if something thinks they can get a Benefit from any type of regardless of the price I say go for it.

Predator : I must say I did try a Predator break cue one time in a pro shop when the guy handed it to me and said try this I just got this in. I actually loved the way it felt; not the cue but rather the grip. It was the black / yellow with the squaring finned rubber grip. I just thought it felt so perfect. For me that's saying a lot as generally I hate just about all grips. I liked it so much I seriously considered getting it retro fitted to my player. Never did but still think about doing it and just may!

Overall it is like a custom cue in that there is absolutely nothing about it that is going to make you shoot better whether you spend $100 or $10,000 on the stick.

Just as custom cues add nothing to your ability to make balls, a break cue costing $400 adds nothing to your ability to break over a break cue that cost $70. I use and recommend one simple because I don't want to use my playing stick for it.

With that said, I don't judge people for spending their money how they want. $100 is to some people as $10 is to others. It is the reason people go out and spend $100k on a car, when a $25k one accomplishes the exact same thing - gets you from point A to point B.

Pretty good insight. I have 5 BREAK Cues. why, because I can ;)

The 2 best brk cues I have are the most expensive one (OB Break)
and the least expensive one, a no-name break cue that someone poured epoxy in the bottom of cue to add more weight. I paid $35 for that cue because some guy needed the money, and I thought I might just use the thing as a sneaky pete anyways.

So, I use these two brk cues depending on the table I play on. And if need be, I can shoot and break with the cheap break cue if I'm going someone "less then stellar conditions or neighborhood). Steal my cue, yeah, I'm out $35, enjoy it ;)
