I am planning to attend the tournament at the end of February. Does the casino extend a discount, or is it worth staying a few miles away and saving a couple hundred bucks?

Every time I looked it was WAY WAY WAY cheaper off site.

I have played and stayed there many times and have never been disappointed.

They have other properties off site that are less expensive, but I prefer to stay where I play. YMMV

You can stay cheaper near by, but take into account winter travel.

I played there a couple years ago.

Arrived Thursday afternoon. Drove 100 miles, just beating an approaching snow storm. (12+ inches).
I checked in, and didn't go outside for 3 days.

Set the room thermostat at 80 and look outside a lot.

My room was a measured 1/8th mile from the tournament.
All indoors in shirt sleeves and sneakers.

It was worth a couple hundred not dealing with the storm.

Yes, the casino does offer a discount. Room rate will be $109. This is a great rate as this casino ALWAYS sells out every weekend.

A quick check on hotels.com and you can get a room for about $85. But you're going to be driving and parking. So for an extra $50 for 2 nights you can stay on site.

The flyer for the Feb 28 - Mar 3 event is not quite ready. It will be posted at http://soaringeagleopen.com

They offer veterans a pretty healthy discount. If you happen to be one.

That explains my experience. I looked too late and (1-2 weeks out) and only saw like $500 night rooms available last time. I’d have jumped at $109.

I live about 45 miles away.

Whenever I hear about Soaring Eagle, I always say satan lives in Mt. Pleasant. They've been caught a few times for the slots not paying out enough. My first casino experience with them and I've never left up any money. The buffet is pretty good.

Btw, there is no Mountain in Mt. Pleasant.

If you stay offsite don't worry too much about the roads. Snow is generally all cleared off by noon, even after a heavy storm. There is little lake effect snow that makes it that far inland. I would think there are some rooms to be had for around $50-$60.
