Soda in Case

tonight a glass of Mountain Dew was spilled into my 3x5 Instroke Buffalo case.

I got my cues/shafts out quickly and cleaned off, but looking for help on how to salvage case if possible.

I was thinking just filling with very hot water, shaking vigoursly and emptying , then letting dry for a month or so.

Am I S.O.L. on the case and start looking for new one, or can it be cleaned/salvaged.

Use a tack puller and carefully take the nails out of the bottom. Keep the nails safe. Push the interior through. Separate the tubes and take the liners out. Wash the liners. Reline the tubes and reassemble them.

If you can, steam out the black liner at the top of the case. You can pull up and work on it. Later when it's clean and dry just put a little spray glue inside the body and push the liner back in. Then insert the bundled tubes and put some glue on the bottom and attach the bottom.
 
Geeze, that sucks. Since it'd be a total loss anyways, a similar thing happened to a friend of mine. We wrapped a wash cloth around a broom handle and attached it with a couple of screws, poured some hot, slightly soapy water on it and scrubbed out the compartments, rinsed off the soap and with the same set up we poured hot water on the wash cloth and wringed the excess water from the cloth the scrubbed the compartments again. When we were done we did the same set up with a dry towel and dried as best we could the compartments. Then dried the rest with a hose attached to a blow drier from the bottom up, then we let dry for a few days, the we brushed the interior out with a dryer lint brush. It seemed to work out pretty well, it's been a couple of years and the case is still in use. I don't know if we got all the jizz out but it never left any crud on the cues. I'm not saying this will work on any case, but it worked out well for us

thanks for responding. I think I'll follow Johns instructions and try to save the case.

I've had it quite awhile (8-9 years), but would like to try saving it if I can.

I'll be taking it apart tomorrow.

I was playing Tony Watson years ago during the Open (2007?) and some lady spilled an entire Pepsi down into the tubes of his Jack Justis... all over his shafts and everything.

For this reason I always close the lid on my case. I would have died if that had happened to me.

People over think these things.

Go to the local U-wash car wash and drop a few quarters in.
Use the pressure wand and spray on rinse for about a minute.

Then insert wand into case and fire away. Make sure to run the shaft in and out until it all comes out...

Dang, that sounds a bit frisky...

Basically you want to (for lack of a better word) douche it out really good.
Five minutes of rinsing will eliminate anything you need to get out.

Then stuff it with newspaper and remove.
Do the newspaper a few times, legthening the amount of time the newspapers are in there each time.
Repeat for a few hours.

Next fill a sock (or two) with white rice (unless you have a crapload of those silica gel packs) and put the rice sock in the tube for a day. A warm area will help.

After that let the case sit near your heater for a week and it will be good as new (assuming the douche doesn't run any colors).

Back in '93, I had a guy stuck a couple hundred at twenty a rack, when he "accidentally" dumped a glass of water into my cue case. After we got back to the game, I ended up losing a Benjamin. I didn't handle it well!

Now, I ALWAYS keep my case closed.
