Recently, there has been an extraordinary amount of excitement about the "soft break," but minimal elaboration. I would appreciate some operational definition, wisdom, & elaboration by members of this Forum for struggling novices like me.

get joe tucker's racking secrets! i just got it and it is awsome. i went to practice the day i got it and was making balls including the 9 three times.

if you've ever watched corey deuel (sp?) break, you'll see him soft break once in a while. i believe he even won a tournament with it a few years ago. in any case, soft breaking is generally used to break the rack out just enough to spread the balls up and control the cue ball. its usually a medium-soft speed and the balls usually stay on half the table, with the cue ball squatting somewhere in the center.

its a good break if the table is breaking easily and you're making balls on every break, regardless of speed. this break, if done correctly, is very effective in that you can control the cue ball and therefore eliminates the scratch possibility in your break.
