Soft Jaws replacement material

I purchased a set of Soft Jaws from Gary Langley a couple years ago. I was needing a replacement, but sadly I found out Gary has passed away.

The one set is a heavier material. I use it less often. It is good for holding the cue securely like a leather strip with grip, but harder to reduce any runout.

The thinner ones are great in many situations, and I don't have the runout problems. However, I have worn them out and need a replacement.

I am pretty sure I figured out what the heavier ones are made from (Offset Printing Rubber Blanket) and of course don't need those. I haven't figured out what the thin ones are though.

Does anyone know what this material is or an equivalent?

The one I have is dense rubber, A.B. Dick, PPE Blanket, .065" thick.

It works well for my applications at the moment.

These work real good. I got my last set right before Gary passed. On the thinner set I like them much better after removing the plastic backing.
I will let you know if I find something similar.

Thanks. I totally forgot it had the plastic backing. I took it off too. Much better without it

I ordered the .053 blanket. When I removed the backing, it measures .037". If I compress my calipers, it yields .035".
Does it have a canvas type of weave on the back and is it slightly firm or stretchy?

I ordered this one a couple of weeks ago and after removing the plastic backing it is .036 but it is too strechy. What I received also does not look like what is pictured.

This is not near the quality of the Langley strips.

No, it's got a rubber backing and is slightly stretchy. What I received looks like your pictures.

I received it today and yes; it is pretty much the same stuff. Because it is softer than the other one, it does not handle high torque well. It works great for regular operations where you cannot use a collet, like a newly installed ferrule that is larger than the shaft.

FYI If you want the thicker one, the new owner of Mid America Lathes, CueMakersSupply has it.

Lifetime supply.

Update: It is not as stiff, like Busbee Cue mentioned, so it may wear out faster. It still seems to work well and I have plenty.
