Softest hitting cue on the market in your opinion?

Pechauer and McDermott are very soft. Add a soft tip to about any shaft and you have a soft hitting cue.

This is a bit of a tough question to answer, but I too like a softer hitting cue and here are a few things that I think greatly contribute the the "softer" feel. Go with a softer ferrule and tip, I like juma ferrules and whatever the stuff Jacoby uses on the their hybrid shaft. I like ultraskin pro and pure-x soft tips. These tips are pretty consistent, but with any soft tip, they will require a little more burnishing and trimming over time to stop mushrooming. I think a longer shaft taper provides a softer hit. As far as the joint material, I'm not sure how much it really matters, but I prefer ivory or Juma and sometimes phenolic. Generally speaking, I think steel joints are little too hard for my taste, but with the rights shaft setup, you can attain a softer hit with a steel joint. I've owned several Southwest cues, and have never had one I would consider a softer hit, most of mine were very stiff and quite hard. Hit is very subjective and unfortunately a lot of trial and error is the only way to really find what you are looking for. A good custom builder will usually be able to help you figure out what you are looking for.

I certainly agree with pathman in that i have also owned several southwest cues(and play with one currently) and they are for from being soft hitting. I think they are the firmest,almost hard hitting, non steel jointed cues out there and its also why i love them. But going back to the op,s original question, the softest hitting cue i have owned is a omen cue(which really surprised me because i had always heard petes cues described as similar to southwests )but in my opinion this particular cue played about as differently from a southwest as you could get. Very soft hit. Also i play with my tips cut down way below half the size of a full tip. This alone firms up the hit of any cue,so an easy way to somewhat soften the hit of a cue is play soft to medium tips and play them close to full size.

MEUCCI! PECHAUER and MC DERMOTT?

I don't know if it's still available, but if yes;

A 17 oz MEUCCI with an original 30" shaft (no Red or Black dot shaft), a long ferrule and a new Elk Master tip!

I agree to quite all of what ENGLISH! and Straightpool_99 already mentioned!

Btw SWN99 why PECHAUER and MC DERMOTT?
With what kind of shaft and tip and the MC DERMOTT with what kind of joint?
I'm only asking, because I owned and used to play with cues from both and none of them was IMO a real soft hitting cue!
My PECHAUER even had a pretty stiff hit. At least with the 1st generation 314 shaft and the medium MOORI tip. You said with any shaft...

Continued thanks to all

My feelings exactly. The Meucci originals had a very soft hit that gave you great sensitivity in feeling the hit. I appreciate all opinions past and those yet to come. Problem is finding a cue that old in great shape that does not need a rebuild.
