Ok so I thought I'd give some feedback from yesterday's unexpected practice session.
Back story: so after a poor performance in league due to lack of both play and practice I decided that id take the next season off to practice, but with situations at home and the brain not being in order there was no true mood or feeling for the game. On top of that in preparation for that retreat to the hills with the monks I had been looking into issues I've been having and trying to find s fix for the sudden increase in back hand movement I've been having. The problem with that is it actually messed with my head and resulted in further degradation of my already struggling game where I was now unable to "see the shot" anymore, so the none playing along with issues at home and frustration from this state of loss turned out to be several weeks of not picking up the stick.
Plan: go on a back to basics teaming session with the HAMB approach to correct stroke problems and prefect so other skills along the way once the home stuff was done.
So what happened: Well the home stuff is in its last week and after suddenly picking up the stick for a brief moment Saturday I decided to go yesterday and start planing this routine out. Now the plan is to go and hit about 10 racks out of the planed total of around 50 of just straight in stroke/stop shots, well to my surprise by the 4th rack I can already feel and see the muscle memory kick in and that left right movement in the back hand fading away and by rack 8 an even more natural reaction to the whole smooth warm up stroke right into the follow through.
So what I wanted to say to some of those with stroke inconsistency was that depending on the issue you may not need to reach 200 balls before you start to see improvement, now I understand that everyone is different and many don't have the patience to shoot 10 racks of the same shot but I was not only happy but surprised with how quickly the change took effect and how natural it started to feel to where I'd say I was about 25% there. Now why I say that is because that was only one shot, it was not over distance or during a cut shot or even with english so I only gave it 25%.
So in closing and with a Hugh apology for the long intro/build up as I know some will not care and some (even I at times) get uninterested when seeing long post, but seeing how offer a practice or stroke help thread comes up I thought I'd give my feedback on fixing a major problem I was having with seeing the shot, getting down on that line and delivering a straight stroke without any back hand movement or swishing of the wrist on some shots. Given my dedication to practice I'd say by the end of this 3 month workout session starting over from scratch and not taking my past skill level into account I should be looking like John Morra (looking like not playing like) by the time all this is done and even up a ball or two.
Again sorry for the long post and good luck to those seeking improvement. I'll post an update in about a month but with out the drama.
