Some new cues up...

what do you think the price should have been set at joe?

Jeff,
Its a good question.. thats the problem, you put a cue out there and hope for the best. My opinion, maybe retail plus 100-150 / year of wait time. Like anything else, you can ask hi and come down. You can never start lo and go up.

Joe

what is retail on this particular cue so we can figure out what your answer is?
also what do you consider barry's current wait time?

Jef,
I don't know Barry's "retail" on this cue. I guess if you aren't taking orders the wait time is infinite.

Joe (--waiting since '95

joe, i don't understand why you put retail in quotes? i was just using the word you used in your post and you didnt use quotes the first time.
how can we use your formula if you don't know what retail is or the wait period? in a post above you stated that it was the price you were asked to put on it with a big grin icon :D inferring that you didnt think it was the proper asking price.
but now when asked what the proper price should be you dont want to state one. first you give a formula and then you say that it doesnt really apply since his wait list "is infinite".
do you feel mark will let you go if you state what you really believe? or do you always avoid answering questions?

Jeff,
I put retail in quotes because I don't know what Barry would charge. Which is exactly what I said. Use the formula on something you know. Example, a SW might be 12-14 hundred from them new. Add 100 / year of wait and you get 2000-2200 which is what a new unchalked SW goes for. Which is why the formula works. The amount you charge for wait time may vary cuemaker to cuemaker.
The grin was because its what I was asked to put on it, there was no reference to anything. Don't read into things that aren't there.
Mark will let me go.. rotflmao... I am not avoiding anything. I think 95% of cue prices are ridiculous. Thats it.

you never answered the question! so yes, you are avoiding giving your opinion. what does the sw price have to do with the cue we're posting about?
i don't know why you would be rotflmao about mark possibly letting you go? when people criticize their boss on a public forum that would not be an unheard of outcome. maybe you meant that you really didnt need the income from pool table magic / classic cues or whatever name it's supposed to be.
but, yes, YOU DID avoid the question! but i wont ask it again since for some reason you don't want to answer it. i still think it's odd though to snicker about your own prices and put the blame on the boss and then not give an opinion. why snicker in the first place? surely this type behavior would not help to sell the cue and that is your purpose is it not?

Here is a tried and true formula that might help. I got what you want, what I got is hot,you gonna pay my number or not? If not, someone else gets the shot.

Jeff,
I will slow it down for you.. I don't know what Barry's retail number is. I have no idea how Mark came to that number. I think most cues are over priced. What question do you want me to answer? What should the price be?
$2500000.00 ok. Does that make you happy? I snicker about prices because I think they are FUNNY. I am not blaming Mark or anyone.

The price is set by the market, what I think or what you think is irrelevent. If I say the cue is really a 2500 dollar cue,. then some nit will come here and say well Joe is only saying that because Barry and Mark don't get along, if I say it should be 6850 the same nit will say thats just because he is selling it.

Joe (--I missed where I critisized Mark, please point it out to me. I posted a damn smiley face.. get a grip

another prime example of you not answering a question!
unless of course you are being serious about that price :)

I said this before while I was in an edit..

"The price is set by the market, what I think or what you think is irrelevent. What I try to do Jeff, I know this is going to be hard to believe, I don't really like conflict. So I try not to leave myself open for some moron to take a swipe. I am a veteran of flame wars and I know exactly what will be played up into something that was never meant, or taken out of context. So why leave it open?

Joe

joe, actually you said you were asked to put that price on it. and then you used the big smiley icon :D
in following posts you stated about cue prices "i think they are funny", "i think most cues are overpriced", and "the price is set by the market". i can understand saying "prices are set by the market"
but when you are trying to sell cues i don't understand why you would make fun of your own prices? i can't speak for mark but i doubt he would understand it either.
and when you say such things about the prices of the cues you personally are trying to get people to purchase it seems like an odd way to go about selling a cue. this would make you the one opening yourself up for comments.
but you have made it clear now the reason you don't answer questions is because you feel you might get flamed.

Jeff,
You're half right. But since you are relatively new I will tell you I have always thought cue prices skyrocketed out of control a long time ago. I have always posted that, even in RSB. Mark and I talk about it all the time.
Look I put cues up on the site for sale, I don't go twisting peoples arm, I don't badger people, I don't nag people. Sure maybe it is odd, but I look at it this way, when I go to a store to buy a tv. I always buy from the saleman that left me alone. But thats just me. Let me ask you, have I ever e-mailed you saying "Hey look at this" or hey we got this in.. no. Its not our policy. But I bet you there are other dealers that do do that. One we both know does it. So I would rather be odd, than be normal in this case.
As far as not getting flamed, flaming is not a big deal. You need to be able to take the heat as well as give the heat. In the case of your question, I just know the outcome already. So why bother? Just like when I posted in the Rambow thread, I knew who would comment. I just try to avoid conflict when ever possible. (Its called picking and choosing your battles)

i dont know what i'm half right about but thanks!

you guys always have to throw that in :)

mark must not agree with you judging by what he thinks his cues are worth :)

so you don't go to the salesman that thinks the prices are funny?

But thats just me. Let me ask you, have I ever e-mailed you saying "Hey look at this" or hey we got this in.. no. Its not our policy.

no you havent! and the one time i asked you for a price you couldnt answer the question :)

But I bet you there are other dealers that do do that. One we both know does it.

i guess you are referring to bill grassley? yes, he did email and call me to death! but for some reason he doesnt any longer? :)

So I would rather be odd, than be normal in this case.
