I think hes talking about Stephen Hendry. I dont have anything to add here, I've never met him. All I know is that hes incredible to watch in top gear.

I have always preferred Steve Davis myself, partially because its impossible not to like him. Him and Ronnie O'Sullovan, not that hes as likeable as Davis, but hes certainly interesting.
 
Well, I like Ronnie O Sullivan for his style, and John Higgin for his mental toughness.

I wish I could have watched Alex Higgin play live.

I heard some talk that they may try to get him to come over to the Derby next year.

Admittedly he was the best player ever to play the game throughout the nineties, but I could never get past his "I was supposed to win" attitude.
Never seemingly happy even when he won, which was often.
Downright sulky when he lost, confirmed by mutual friend as a common occurance.
So here is a quote from Stephen Hendry on a match win in Malta. I don't know many other players that would say such a thing, even if they thought as such, most are a little more humble.

"It took me a few chances to win the first frame but, after that, I was brilliant.

"When I play like that nobody can beat me but I haven't been doing it often enough to win tournaments lately."

1...did you hear it, or did you read it? there is a HUGE difference in inflection.

2...how the british express themselves, ie:"i was quite brilliant",,,sounds VERY british to me. i've heard the use of the word "brilliant" in very common ways to express very common things.

so i wouldn't take that as anything more than a particularly british way of expressing themselves. hendry has come across as very reserved and civil to me. maybe our azb'ers from across the ocean can chime in.

There's nothing wrong with confidence, some people take it to the level of arrogance though. I like to see that in a player. We Americans love a good "bragger" like Minnesota Fats?, Muhamed Ali, Fast Eddie Felson, Vincent Lauria?:)......I"m just saying from a pure Billiards standpoint, if you back it up with wins, brag all you want IMO. If it's a personality contest, arrogance can wear on your last nerve......I'm sorry I never got to see him play snooker.

Criticizing public figures is quite an old sport, and one that Mr. Hendry likely knows well. I expect he does not care a whole lot about what some anonymous Internet post says.

I see that slasher took it upon himself to delete his posts.


My intention was that he be considerate, and think about the desired effect of his words, not that he remove them.
