Some pictures from the Charlotte APA Cities

Now I know some of you have serious issues with the APA, or have had experiences with the APA that have left a bad taste in your mouth. For myself the experience is the opposite. Yes there are some bangers who talk about wanting to be better, but aren't willing to actually do anything to make that a reality. There are also a lot of shortstops and slightly lower playing as well as a large amount of people who are bound and determined to be as good as they can be. Well here's how it's done in Charlotte.

For the Cities here the LO rents out about 80 7' Diamond bar boxes with the Diamond lights and fresh Simoniz 860 and Super Aramith balls. When the doors open you can practice for I think $.50 which is one token, but I you might get 3 tokens per dollar....didn't pay attention. When your matches start you stop paying to play.

Here's a picture of me with the Big Dog trophy for #1 team in the Charlotte Metro APA. Considering that the cities is played Wed-Sun on 80 tables you can imagine just how many teams that covers. This is my second in a row and before you congratulate me I say thank you. I will also say that this trophy is cursed as both times we have gotten this trophy our team has lost that night :(

Finally this is the whole team with none other than Kelly Fisher and the trophy. Kelly was there all week taking challenges and just talking with everyone and anyone who came up to speak to her.

Don't get me wrong here as I don't agree with everything that the APA does. I highly doubt I would agree 100% with any league I would take part in. I would leave that for a league I would run and leave the rest to not totally agree with how I run it.

I'd also like to add that I saw the craziest break ever on Thursday night. A player on my team was breaking. He broke, jumped the CB off the table, bounced on the floor, through the back of a chair, bounced on the floor under a table, through the back of a chair on the other side of the table and knocked a guys prosthetic leg down. I howled laughing not knowing it was a leg as I just heard it hit plastic (thought it was a bottle). Then I see the guy shoot a glare and prop his leg back up.....this is where I think omg that is a leg and then I feel very bad for laughing.

Damn you! I am so missing Charlotte right now!!!! Seeing all my friends facebook status's about going to Cities is so depressing! I should be there!

And KT who runs the Charlotte APA does an amazing job! The way the APA is run in Charlotte is the model of how EVERY pool league in this country should be run! There is a reason why she has 800+ teams every session!

And, IIRC it is $0.50 per game no matter how many tokens you buy at once.

I'll also add in that winning a team championship in the Charlotte APA Cities is a big deal given the quality of people who play APA there! I know of several BCAPL Grand Master/Master players who play APA in Charlotte and their teams are always really stout!

Shoulda came down...it's a good time. I've got one more picture that I'm getting for the Big Dog. They brought in some Great Danes for us to hold with the trophy. KT had em brought in and I'm just waiting on the pictures to be emailed to me.

We got knocked out last night (like I said that damned trophy is a curse), but I still had a good time and the tables played great. Steve asked me to ref the 8ball Express Cities tonight, but I have a cold so I won't be able to make it.

The description sounds great. Can't wait to get home and see the pic's...
(for some reason some pic's here don't display on my work pc, while others do... very annoying)

Way cool stuff. I'm looking forward to our state tournament myself, tho we won't have nearly the amount of folks you do. I went last year, and it sure is a great experience. Now if we can only get through that to Vegas...

Minneapolis to Charlotte is a bit of a drive to go to Cities :)

I have a few friends playing in the 8BE Cities today as well. Have my fingers crossed that Cindy/John's team from the Green Room win it again!

Bah it's a hop, skip and a jump ;)
I woke up Friday with a bit of a cold and splitting headache so I knew that even if I was out of the APA cities on Saturday I wouldn't be able to make the 8BE Cities. I've woken up the last two days with a bad headache and I wasn't even swilling beers.

i am new to this forum but like gunzby i would like to share my experience with apa but also other leagues too. would like to introduce myself and give you a lil info on me. my name is buddy and i have always loved pool since i was a kid. we had a table in our house for a couple years when i was 13 or 14. played strictly in bars for 30 years. sometimes i would not play for a year or two at a time. you know the story, wife, kids, job, etc. never had any lessons but consider myself a decent player. been called a hustler quite a few times. 6 years ago a guy i was playing in a bar asked me to join his league team. i told him i had never played in a league and didnt think i was that good. he told me i was better than most guys on his team. so i joined,it was bca 9 ball. i hated it at first. all the slop, defense and pushouts. this bar player had never played that kinda crap. but i caught on and we placed 2nd in the playoffs and got nothing. 1st place got 1600.00 and trip to vegas. second season the exact same thing happened again. we got nothing and the same team went to vegas again. while i was plaing a guy in a bca match one night he asked me to play on his 8 ball tap team that played the following night. i joined that also.
so im plaing 2 nights a week now. our tap team came in 2nd and we got 1400.00. then i started playing 8 ball bca on another night. i thought i was getting pretty popular being asked to play on all these teams 3 nights a week. quit playing for 2 years for personal reasons. started back playing last year and its not bca,its now apa. first season back i qualified for top gun and i won it and qualified for the regionals next month. sorry for the long winded post.
