definitely quality work. can you give me some general specs? typical exposure length, ISO setting, aperture, camera, lens, ...

i'm a semi-professional B&W fine art photographer so don't take this the wrong way: you obviously have the technical side of these pictures, but i think you could improve these if you used a longer lens, a wider aperture, and a viewpoint that isn't as much lined-up with the tables. shortening the shutter speed (if possible) to bring someone's body or face into focus could really make a dynamite picture too.

Thank you for your advice. Why would I use a longer lens? If anything, I've been thinking of using a shorter lens to incorporate a wider view, including more of the surrounding poolhall. I agree and have using shorter speeds, singling out one player and making him more defined. I have nearly 300 similar shots varying exposure times and compositions. As far as aperture, I believe on all these long exposures I was using f/22 to balance the exposure and to try to achieve that 'star effect' from the lights, as well as a deep DOF.

Thank you kindly for the input, I am always trying to learn more.

Can you do a black and white without the long exposure and the color on the balls only? That would be cool.

How did you only color in the balls? In the dark room or photoshop?

I also did a couple pool pictures with the long exposure for a photography class I had in college and they came out cool like these, but yours are better.

It kind of get me to start thinking: pool players come and go, but the table and the balls are there everyday. If I was the pool balls, how would I look at all these pool players? Is this all just vanity?

^^This is the best review yet. I agree. The tables are there. Players come and go. This is what these images mean to me. The history coupled with the seeming permanence of the wonderful games we call billiards.
