No, it's different because Trudeau has disrupted lives and made promises that are of far greater scope than Barry Behrman's promise that his prize fund was guaranteed. Trudeau essentially said to pool players all over the world follow me and for those that earn a tour spot - your life is guaranteed. Telling players that you are bankrolling a tour for two years win or lose and making a promise that each Tour Card holder would earn at least $100,000 is why this situation dwarfs Behrman's. 3 million owed to 200 players is substantial. 18 million is what Trudeau really owes based on his promises. So far the players have given Trudeau their best good faith efforts and done all that he has asked of them. He, in return, has treated them with disrespect and disdain.
It seems as though Trudeau wanted to own pool and it's players in the same way that plantation owners owned the cotton industry and all the slaves that made it possible. He has shown nothing but disregard for the people he claimed were the most important to this venture.
And yes, after the US Open shorted the prize fund the players did unite in a fashion with the UPA and they brought Barry to the table and were able to garner some concessions and some payments.
Hopefully, this time will see the players do it the right way and build an organization that will benefit them for the long term.

Let me also add that Barry also had what i would call legitimate reasons for cutting his prize fund short...Let's see...he had 9/11 to deal with. He had a hurricane to deal with...Under these circumstances what would you have done.
It also gets me that whenever something like this happens, Barry and the U.S.Open always get dragged into it.....Yes Barry was wrong to add the word "GUARANTEE" into his adds...But when everything is counted i believe that Barry Has done a great deal for the game of pool. So in the future, why don't we just leave sleeping dogs lie and get on with our own lives and leave Barry out of a post that he has no right being dragged into since this fiasco has nothing to do with him.
Now... Lets get to an answer for your original question....Yes it is different.. Alot different. KT/IPT held a "MAJOR" tournament of $3,000,000.00 when they knew in fact that they did not have the money to cover the purse. He made ALOT of promises to the players, that now seem to have vanished. They (KT/IPT) brought together 200 players from the far corners of the world who paid good money out of their own pockets to attend this fiasco. And look at the end result. They should have announced well in advance that they were going to cut the purse and go with that. Look what is happenning now. KT is a convicted felon and a scam artist. His background is his own fault. No one else's. Now let me ask you a question. How would you feel if you traveled from, lets say, Korea and had spent over $2,000.00, out of pocket, just to get stiffed like this? would you dare to have made this same post?.....mike

Further to this the two are apples and oranges apart. The US Open is not a qualifier funded event. The revenue is simple. Entry fees + Added Money + Sponsor Money + Event Revenue (drinks, food, admission etc) = Available Funds for Mr. B. to pay from.
To compare him to KT and his promises is way off side. The man has done a lot for pool. Mr. B's well publicized run in with the law was not in a effort to steal from those with no hope.
Question:
For all those who think that the IPT has been the biggest thing pool has ever seen. Many years from now when Efren passes on will they list his "IPT World 8 Ball Championship" or his 1994 US Open?
Nah your right. Based on the attached picture...he's done nothing for the game.

The Phillipines are at where we "used" to be at. Barry created the cornerstone of what it takes to be the best in the US and the world as one looks back. He's had his ups and downs, many of us here have too. I have always thought everything in the states should flow around and too the US Open to create the Augusta/Masters of pool just once a year.
It's no different than the Junior players each year competing for the National title and getting a chance to compete with the worlds best up and coming players. I hope Justin Bergman does well, I know he's got the ability but I don't think his conviction is the likes of Jungo or the others that have won this special title. It's never happened and it'll be a long time coming before one of our Jr players will ever win this event, because there is no structure or platform for them as they grow up.
