It Seems To Me That No Matter Who Wins The Tourny In Reno They Will Be The Koth...$500,000 For First No One Can Catch That...even If Manalo Takes 2nd In Every Tourny That Gives Him A Total Of $349,000 So Basically You Only Have To Win The Reno Tourny To Be The Koth....
 
Yes, the top heavy prize structure will probably mean the winner
of this tourney will be guaranteed the minimum 100k for making it
to the final two in the KOTH, so I guess this tourney is really paying 600k to the winner.

Sure the KOTH is kind of gimmicky but I like the format, again, this kind of stuff will all change with time as the amount of tourneys increase.

For the time being, I think we should be ecstatic that a pool player is gonna
earn at least 600k this year over just one tournament and one additional match.
 
I think the current top-heaviness of the payouts is for marketing reasons, and I think as a marketing strategy, it's probably a good idea. The IPT has now claimed "the biggest pay-day in the history of professional pool" in every one of its events, unless I'm mistaken. They paid out $150,000 to Sigel (which may not or may not have been the biggest ever, not sure on that one), then $250,000 to Efren, $350,000 to Thorsten, and $500,000 to the winner of this event. If they manage to get these all on TV eventually, it should be a good way to grab people's attention.

In the interests of making the tour more fair in the future, though, the pay-outs should become somewhat more evenly distributed, so that the players that consistently make the top 5 or 10 will win at least as much as a player who won a single tournament but didn't do well in any of the others.

Also condiser that many companies in general have top heavy salary structures where an entry level worker may be paid only a small fraction of a top executive.
