Well I sold my Break cue, and turned my old Espiritu into my break cue.

I put a Water Buffalo Tip on the shaft and went on my way.

The first time i went to break, as i was in motion i felt my hand slip :eek: And it happend the second time too.

It then dawned on me why guys choose a cue with no wrap for breaking, cuz my hand was slipping on the wrap.

Now since I want to use this cue for breaking, atleast untill i get a new break cue. I was thinking of putting some grip tape on the wrap IE like a hockey stick for extra grip. And no not like what Earl does. well not that thick. And I'm not worried about ruining the cue, hence the reason i would put grip tape on the wrap.

Did anyone else notice this ? It seriously just dawned on me tonight, when i started looking around at everyones break cue. I've had several break cues, all with no wraps, I just never thought having a wrap on a break cue would be that big of a deal.

Well, I haven't used a linen-wrapped cue in 43 years. You mean to tell me that most people like to have their hands slip? :eek:

Home Depot has Grit Tape Tread Grip that may take some skin off your palm, but your hand won't slip off the cue.

Or you could just cut the linen thread off the handle. I understand there's nice, sticky goo underneath.
 
I use the same wrapped Schmelke to break and shoot. How can people spend so much on a cue that only does half the job? I have no problems at all with slippage during the break. I believe I have a fairly good 8b break and just learned a stance/technique that has made a huge difference in my 9b break (that little hip-twist thing is pretty cool).

Stop being such a wuss and grip the damn thing! :p

Of course, I'm still a small fish. :confused:

I was holding the butt of the cue very tight and it would still slip in my hand.

Rackem, where do you find these rubber sleeves?

The rubber sleeves usually come in a 10 pack and can be found in most drug stores. Make sure you don't buy the lubricated ones because they are made to slip! J/K :D

Here's a couple of easy tricks to try.

1- Take plain 'ol wax paper, and rub it briskly on the wrap. The friction of the rub melts the wax and gives the wrap a nice "tacky" feel.

2- Buy a can of spray starch, and spray the wrap. Same "tacky" result.:D

Yea i think the whole condom over the cue, would give me some very very weird looks lol, but funny lol.

I seen the sleeves,, now is this like the grips on a Cuetec cue?

Well tonight at the pool hall I ended up just Ordering another a Action # 39 sneaky pete, and will use that for breaking, till i get a custom one order'd.

I didnt put any grip tape on the cue, and have a friend on my weds 8ball team who is interested in the cue. so it'll all work out in the end.
