Anybody in southern oc have their own table (or know of a good place in so oc cause I don't) and looking for someone to practice with? It's sucking more and more to have to fight traffic up to Anahiem or LA to play on some decent equipment.

Dougie, I'm in South OC too and I know just what you mean. There's just no decent Pool rooms between Danny K's in Orange and Family Billiards in Oceanside. There's also no APA, BCA, VNEA, BPPPA or other leagues, nor any regular tournaments that I know of at any of the less-than decent rooms and bars in the area.
However I do have a 9' GC-style table in my garage, so if you want a to come over for some practice sessions send me a PM and we'll get something arranged.

Blue Dolphin
I've been to the Blue Dolphin a few times while visiting my wife's parents. Last time I was there, one of the corner pockets on the table we were playing on would fall out every time you sunk a ball. I don't think the cloth is replaced very often either.
Having said all that, it does have a decent atmosphere considering the playing conditions.

It's actually more of a shame (IMHO) when you have a room that is good in other respects (Good food, service, atmosphere etc.) and totally neglected Pool tables. I can forgive it in a bar where the tables are just another casual amusement, but there used to be a place called Kelly McCues in south OC (Just around the corner from where I lived in fact) that had a dozen 9 tables that they had just no idea how to maintain. I would have been happy to play there regularly if they'd just done some very basic upkeep.

I thought maybe it was the lighting or just something weird I was seeing, but sure enough, it rolled toward that end. It was a nice place though, and could be really nice with a little work on the tables. What a shame.
Kelly McCues (well, until it burned down) and Q in Newport Beach are the only places I knew of in South OC when I lived there, aside from your Dave & Buster's type places. I did play in a place once in Newport near Triangle Square while visiting family, but the tables really, really sucked.

Yes, Big Shots on El Toro is mostly just kids hanging out, at least the few times I've been there. The tables are adequate (Not sure if they're real Olhausen's or just knock-off ones) but there's no Simonis or equivalent cloth and I've no leagues or tournaments that I know of. However if the food is good (Never tried it) and you get free Pool with food at lunch time it may be worthwhile for an hour or two of daytime practice.
There's also a few other casual places with 9' tables, like The Classic Q near John Wayne airport (which is where I tend to go most weekday lunchtimes because it's near my office) and The Shark Club in Newport Beach, but again none are even remotely players rooms.
