Southwest w/ Predator Shafts question

Does anyone on here use a Southwest cue/Predator shaft combination or is that just a total crime against cue-manity?

If so - how does it balance?

I have an original southwest with 2 shafts and a custom P314 shaft made by Kent Taylor (Oklahoma I think). Kent did a great job matching the inlay and butt. Anyway I never liked the hit of the 314. I ended up purchasing a Josey Cue about six months later and never returned to the SW.

Yes, I do beleive that's a crime. If it's not, it ought to be. Why not just use a Predator butt?
 
i have done it many times.
i am a 314 fan.
the SW butt makes a BIG difference in the way the cue plays, and hits.
VERY good combo IMO.
i played with that combo for 8 months at one time.

Agreed! It is a crime. Why not just go buy a KC custom cue and slap a 314 on it, or a CUTEC and slap one on there (which would be a thrifty way to go). In my opinion, it would not even help the resale of the cue. I did not wait 9 years to own a SW so I can make it hit like a predator... If thats what I wanted, I would buy a predator.
 
Laurie told me she could make SW shafts from Predator blanks. But I agree that it would be a crime.
 
I played with a South West for about three years and had a Predator shaft made for it. I loved the hit, but the only problem was that the Predator shaft weighed less than the SW shafts, and this moved the balance point back about .5".

I also prefer a cue with a thinner butt than the SW, so I eventually traded for my current Mottey. The Predator shafts for my Mottey cue match the weight of the Mottey shafts, and it is the best playing cue I've ever had.

I say you should do whatever is best for you and forget what others tell you. If you prefer a Predator shaft on your South West, by all means use it.

I don't even have a SW, but I agree with that a Predator shaft plays best on a Predator butt. I speak from experience.

I just wanted to ask the question. Quite an array of opinions!

What are your opinions on the deflection of a SW cue? Is it stiff/similar to a Predator shaft, but with more feel?
