SP Revo cue wrap

I bought a SP Revo cue about a month ago and I love it. I hated the wrap though. The finish is very coarse grain composition material....rubbery plastic,. After my first 3 hour playing session I started to get a blister on the inside of my thumb where it contacts the grip. I've played with a leather wrap on my older player for years and I really like the smooth leather feel. I decided to have the grip replaced with leather installed by a pro cue repair person.
Being the impatient sort I surmised that the standard wrap is thermo plastic and maybe I could smooth it with heat from an iron. With a regular clothes iron set on wool I started to iron the grip. All the hard bumpiness smoothed down but left the low spots of the grain intact....just like leather!! Today I played for 3 hours and am thrilled with the feel of the cue now.
If the coarse grip bothers any players you might try this as an option......at your own peril. I figured I had nothing to lose by trying as I was going to have a pro replace the wrap anyway if I screwed the pooch. Mitch

Which SP do you own. If it's the SP2 didn't it come with a leather wrap? Can you show picts of your mod. Thanks

My SP-2 is the yellow curly with matte black points. Predator describes the wrap as "uni loc leather luxe.
I think the "luxe" part means synthetic. Now I might be wrong about that but that's what my fingers are telling my brain. At any rate, the ironing process made the nubs of the wrap smooth down and the roughness that bothered me is gone. I'll try and snap a phone photo of it later but I doubt if I can get the detail that shows the result acheived.
I'm going to PM a noted dealer and cue maker and get his take. Mitch

If you are not satisfied with what you did there are plenty of options.... change to a different leather or linen. It's an expensive cue. Definitely make it to your liking. I use the shaft on a wrap-less Predator SP6GN and ikon-1. Feels different on each cue. Experiment. You are not limited. Have fun with it.

I think Predator cues use very think wrap with very shallow channel cut for a wrap.

I have an LE4 and ikon 2-1. Like anything the owner has to appreciate it.

I'm not sure what your point is. My point was that Predator cues with "leather" come with very thin (not think) wrap. So to swap it out with more traditional leather or linen, it's more work as the handle has to be cut down more ... potentially more cost and not every repair person can/want-to do the work. Or have to send to someone who is authorized (or able to work on Predator leather wraps) to replace it with same/similar thin leather.
