Special Theme Joint Protectors

I was wondering if anyone has had any "special theme" joint protectors made and I am not referring to fancy or matching cue protectors. We've all seen some dandy versions in the Cue Gallery of matching protector sets and some of these matching designs were indeed fancy to the point of bordering on being a work of art or so it seemed to me.

There's been a couple of special theme cues in the Gallery and skins posted a new thread on a really cool special theme pool cue.......U.S. Navy....by Josey........it's gorgeous. So that prompted me to pause and wonder whether anyone has attempted any special theme pool cue protector set(s). Like I earlier wrote, not a fancy matching protector set because let's face it, there's lots of those around......not to diminish how beautiful and intricately designed some of those protector sets are.......but rather a theme....I recall see a protector set some time ago on the Forum that was a tribute to the Cleveland Browns.

Anyway, I thought it was worth posing the question in the Cue Gallery because this is where you'd most likely get to view any special themed cue protector sets. I know that by browsing some websites, you can locate some really cool designs but I was wondering if anyone on the Forum has had any made and what was the theme and maybe why....how come that theme versus the many others that could come to mind?

Thanks for reading and any posts or photos on this topic.,

First, thank you for the good words on the Josey Navy cue Matt.

As for theme protectors, I think custom protectors should follow the theme of the cue or what's the sense of having them made? If they have nothing to do with the cues look or design whats the point? I love a good custom matching protector set..

While I was browsing some of the workmanship by Alton T. and Jim B., I spotted some scrimshaw designs that really didn't coincide with the cue design as it was images of animal wildlife like wolves, bears, eagles. etc. and I could see how maybe if someone had a lot of interest in say....whales......they might have had a scrimshaw design with whale images or something like that.....heck, it might be the colors & design of your college team......since I've tinkered with the design of my last 2 cues, this might be a fun undertaking......I'd like to view some designs to see if this notion has any merit or am I just whistling Dixie.

Ok. I hope you get some inspiration, design your theme based protectors, and find someone to make them...

The joint protectors on the Mobley M-22 Rack Crusher are very cool and unique.

Yep... Each set fits the cue theme though... Which is what I'm talking about.. I don't see a purpose of making custom joint protectors unless they match the theme of the cue in some way... Some of those sets cost more to make than a lot of cues..lol..

RB is DEFINATELY to best I've seen...

Alton retired to care for his mom. i was in touch 6-8 weeks ago about correcting something he did for me long ago. He offered to do it and we agreed but I have not heard back. I e mailed him 2 weeks ago and no response. Do not plan on his availability.
FYI

GOT IT..........Thanks For The Interest & Posts

Richard Black......Wow.....those are like miniature pool cue designs......"Amazing".

I finally came up with a theme.....and it is indeed going to be unique and it's design that has absolutely nothing
to do with pool or billiards or save the animals, etc. It's definitely special & different and I anticipate the Forum's
reaction will be either instant love or instant dislike
.....maybe disdain.....Yeah, I did write "disdain".....when you
see the protector set theme, you'll better grasp why I used that term.

This is going to be fun. I already started working on another design that will be dramatically different. Fortunately
I am working with someone that's willing to indulge my ideas and tackle these designs. Anyway, what I have in
mind seems pale in comparison to these gorgeous, ornate protector sets already posted.

Just saw photos of the protector set I'm having made and it definitely has a theme to its design which is without a doubt
unique and novel to say the least (2-3465-2747-310) might not be completed until after my pending shoulder surgery but l'll
do my best to get pics posted after the set arrives........and Jim Baxter is a sweetheart of a guy to do business with.

Look up the Titlist joint caps that got made by POOLGODBEWITHME - he made some for my cues and those are probably the coolest old-school 'theme' out there.

Until the protector set arrives, there's not much more I can add other than thanks for your posts.

Meanwhile, maybe I can pique your curiosity.....my prior posts (#10 & 11) contained some hints, i.e., clues.

When you see the protector set theme, it will be much more clear to you.

I was intending to post photos of my new protector set before I have my shoulder surgery but unfortunately, a little bump in the road came up.

Update: My original design was absolutely the coolest Ivory Scrimshaw Derek Jeter & New York Yankees Commemorative Protector Set
but unfortunately it didn't quite turn out as I hoped but it's available for sale from the maker......Oh well, no hard feelings......he's a great guy.
