Speed

Is there a source for the relative speeds of the different cloths. This would be an interesting experiment for someone capable of checking the veracity of the various makers claims about their cloths.

I understand:

1: there are different brands.

2: cloths have different qualities (stain resistance for example)

3: different colors


Am I the only one who would like to see a table of the relative speeds of cloth?

There are differences between cloths, like 760 is way faster than 860, but speed is generally more dependent on setup and conditions rather than type of cloth. Tightly stretched 860 can be extremely fast especially when new, but looser 860 can play like nap cloth. High humidity, dirty balls, and/or dirt also makes tables play especially slow. I doubt there is any official comparison between brands because it would be extremely difficult and costly to have a bunch of different tables set up exactly the same way just with different types of cloth.

I don't think color makes a difference, but I could be wrong and Simonis and Simonis equivalent cloth is probably the highest maintenance cloth. If you plan on spilling drinks on your table, you would be best getting the spill resistant Brunswick cloth (but you would probably be happier just being careful not to bring drinks to the table).

I understand all of the variables.

I understand it would not be easy.

I understand it would not be cheap.

The question is: Am I the only one who would be interested in the results of such a test?
