As far as full splice and short splice, both have there own feel and characteristics. Full splice being two pieced of wood joined by splicing the two, many like that feel or short splice where the points are sliced by a v-grove and then joined by an A-joint.

What is boils down to is quality of construction, if a full splice is cut sloppy and joined it will feel as such. If a short splice cue has good point construction and a good A-joint then it will feel solid, no ping sounds.

It is subjective as to which someone prefers and why. If properly constructed both are desirable methods.

Veneers shouldnt affect structural integrity if property prepared, because they are at the bottom of the v-grove in a short splice.

Full Splice/Half Splice was the subject of a recent thread - the search function should find it with little difficulty.

The most recent thread really related more to the definition of each without touching on the performance characteristics much.
