Split Hits

I remember reading a rule that suggested the benefit of the doubt goes to the shooter in the case of split hits. What I mean is that if a refere or opponent watches a shot and cannot clearly determine that a bad hit has been made--it is considered a good hit.

Where can I find that rule? (Or was it a bad dream?)

Under many split hit scenarios, it's actually fairly easy to determine whether it was a good hit or not simply by the behaivor of the cue-ball.

Say the two balls are equidistant to the cue-ball and the shooter is going directly between them (perfect split hit scenario). If the shooter intends to hit the ball on the right first, the cue-ball must carom left. If the cue-ball caroms to the right, the ball on the left must have been hit first.

However, if it cannot be ascertained that a bad hit occurred, it is a good-hit. Kind of like "innocent until proven guilty".

10 years or so ago a split hit was a foul- because you had to "contact the lowest numbered ball first".

A rule was then added to make a split hit a good hit but im not going to go try to find it- Im sure you will find it in there somewhere.

It's in the rule book

Don't have one here at the office but it's in the World Standardized Rules, ACS Rules and BCA league rules. After I get home I'll look up the rule #.
