Splitting a tip?

Got a question for all of you. I prefer the height of my tip to be pretty low. I feel like I'm wasting money putting an expensive tip on, then grinding (at least) half of it off. So I'm wondering if it's possible to buy a tip, then cut it in half, effectively making 2 tips out of 1. Has anyone ever done this? How did it work out?

I have a customer that ask for that.
They get a soft tip but only use 1/2 of it.
I put the tip on,then razor what is there into two.
I trim the od and make it about a nickel - quarter rad.
He then finishes it to what he wants.
Then about 4 to 6 months latter comes back with the other 1/2 to do again.
Quite alot of people like the hit and feel of a nearly worn out tip, while others don't.

Interesting. I figured it was possible, just wanted to hear someone who has tried it and their experience doing it before I went out and ruined a $25 tip.

a kamui is a very tall tip to start with so and cutting it in half is very easy to do with a razor. i have done this many times...

That's kind of what I was thinking.

Looks like I have my next project. Thanks guys.

I like the Kamui Black hard tips and Mike Johnson's Milk Duds. Just gone some new Dud put on yesterday and turned one of my house cues into an awesome player.

Mike presses his so they are about 1/2 height. Incredibly hard tips.

Getting a few Madman tips in, will let you know what I think of them.

I do this. Easy to do with layered tips and works well. First I stick the tip on, then slice off the top half with a craft knife. Finally finish the tip as usual.
