Do players ever agree beforehand to split the prize money in a winner take all tournament? If there is an invitational where only 6 players are involved in a $50,000 winner take all do the players ever agree to split it 6 ways or maybe the 2 finalists agree to split no matter who wins?

I know at the 2003 Challenge of Champions John Horsfall approached Bustamante about the loser getting out of town money. Bustamante refused and went on to win the event. I also know that Pagulayan who is a close friend of Horsfall wasn't very happy with Bustamante when he got word of what happened.
