Sponsor thoughts.

Does anyone think that the marijuana industry would be a great sponsor, or a co liquor/marijuana branding?

Let's be honest a ton of players smoke, drink, or both.
Recreational players, pro players, people who watch, and all the bangers in between.

Given what matchroom are doing at the moment. For the game and how it's represented. Can't see that going down well.

Not the image pro pool needs to be associated with given the perception most have of pool. The poor image is one of the reasons why pro pool is where it is.

Many of the NBA players smoke. Do you thing the league would allow a cannabis company as a sponsor of the league?
A CBD company Sponsers UFC and I’m pretty sure that company and those athletes are doing very very well for themselves. It’s a lot better then any alcohol company sponsoring anything. Alcohol is way more negative to the world then any CBD or any THC that’s in the herb.

Once the Fed's ease up on the banking regulations for weed companies and they can run like a normal business we are going to see them sponsoring all kinds of things, including the NBA and pool. It's not a question of if but when.

It is dawn of a new pool era and pool is getting money from non-cue related companies. Predator tour getting sponsors like (somewhat shady) crypto Alfa. Matchroom first to move into non-cue related sponsors like betting companies but lately recently they snagged "more respectable" sponsors like car company Cazoo.
All these means bigger $$ for the game and for players and if the promoters do a good job of promoting and marketing their tours it can lead to bigger mainstream demand/consumer market. (The flip side is if promoters screw up, all the money thrown by sponsors into the game generate miserable demand and poor ROI so sponsors withdraw their money).

It depends on where marijuana sits on the respectability scale in the eyes of the consumer.
I think type of sponsors can be ranked on a respectability scale as follows (from most respectable to least respectable) :ROFLMAO:

WORLD CANNOT LIVE WITHOUT THEM
Beer/Liquor
Casino/betting/gambling
Porn/ escort agency/brothels

GREY AREA
Marijuana/pharma stimulants/fringe legal drugs
Lawyers
Crypto

DON'T TOUCH WITH 100 FOOT POLE
MLM/ snake oil salesmen
Religious organisations

THE WORST- AVOID AT ALL COSTS
Lobbyists/ political campaigners/ politicians

But remember weed is only legal in the US (and even then only certain states), in many countries its illegal, that's fine for the NBA, but isn't going to work for Matchroom's global pool tour.

That's the way snooker has gone over the last decade. Its all betting companies now.the cazoo sponsor Is a recent one.
A long time ago it was cigarettes.

True but it only became illegal in other countries (mostly) because of the US pushing it’s ‘war on drugs’ bs back in the day (even before they came up with that catchy name). Once the fed drops the charade hopefully the others do as well. No more threat of pulling aid, closed door bs etc over laws.

The US doesn’t have as strong an influence as in the past but they’re still up there in the world.

If a MJ company wants to sponsor I’d say that’s a great thing. The world is always changing and this is finally a change for the better. Alcohol is one of the most destructive drugs we have but it’s been heavily ingrained into our culture. MJ is basically it’s polar opposite and if it can replace alcohol as the #1 culturally acceptable escape/recreational substance we will be heading the right way.

I hope I see it pop up in pool and all the Miller lite sports.

Sponsors could be interested in visas or training institutions.

other sports create boarding schools.

Give pool pros the chance to represent something other than their nation of heritage.

Then turn it into The Ultimate Cueist

i have not read any replies but this would be very bad
pool has a bad enough image to add marijuana to the list for main stream america

I think we should approach the opiate manufacturer’s and other pharma companies.

The Glass City Open proudly sponsored by Adderall XR and the Merck family. With $50,000 added prize money.

“Why sleep when you can play for days” with our line of products.

“our sponsored players will play anyone races to 200-without a break”

“Play long, Play strong” just use our product.

How can this harm pool?

What’s different than the last 50 years?

Wasn't Thorpe recently banned for testing positive for marijuana? If so, HIGHLY unlikely we will see any cannabis related sponsorship.
That's not a new US tour though. If a union happened, I'm guessing a new tour would also start.

On a serious note, I hope there can be some form of organization for pro pool and real sponsors (not illicit or bad image types) I doubt Rolex or the LVMH group will get on board but some bread and butter blue collar brands would be nice and suit pool well.

I was just joking about drug companies.

There’s a new group of talent and they need a tour. A place to showcase their ability and earn a respectable living for their efforts.

The new kids on the block seem to be more professional which would help attract a good sponsor. Maybe we see it in our lifetime. Hopefully
