Sponsorships ?!

I have been asked in the past to sponsor someone playing semi/ pro pool with a cue and some repairs occasionally. Maybe its just me but I have seen my cues and other cue makers cues, bigger names than me, not even be played with just sold off for the money.

So having been asked again, HECK NO ! If you want a cue reach in your pocket like everyone else ! It would be different if they played with the cue for atleast a year or so and showed it around but its just about trying to grap a few hundred ! Its not about wanting a sponsor so much as it is wanting easy money.

Ok off my soap box...:outtahere:

I've said it before; sponsorship HAS to benifit BOTH the cuemaker & the player. Unless you can reap somesort of financial gain from this partnership, it won't work out for you...

It used to be that you could send a cue to a player and you could get some orders from that. Now to many people want to take advantage.

I would love to be sponsored but I am nowhere good enough. As far as when I'm asked about my Joss, I am sure as hell going to through out the shaft makers name. I have also been asked by a few of the gadgets I carry and my case I got from the forum. I turn people here first.

I like to make sure the guys who make the handcrafted stuff I use are noted rather than turning them to a website for imported products at a partial price.

OK op, you can have your soap box back ;)

sponsorship

I know of two cuemakers that had relationships with players and both parties benefited over a period of almost two years. The player sold several cues and was given a discount, I suppose it depends on how popular the player is and how honest. Ended poorly though. lol

I look at it like loaning money. If you can't afford to never get paid back, don't do it. I made a cue for my girlfriend and a nice kid here locally. One of those has paid me back......several times...
