Sports Illustrated (US) may not love billiards, but 170 other magazines do

Bowling. Chess. Ballooning. They've all been on the cover of Sports Illustrated (US). But, not billiards.

Fortunately, I've discovered more than 170 other magazines that have put billiards professionals or billiards imagery on their covers. They span 100 years, criss-crossing the globe and infiltrating news, music, culture, and every other magazine genre. To make sense of such a motley mix of magazines, I created the Inaugural Billiards-Themed Non-Billiards Magazine Awards.

Here's Part 1 of the blog post with the first round of winners: https://www.billiardsmovies.com/inaugural-billiards-themed-non-billiards-magazine-awards-part-1/

And, if you want to just see the covers, go here.

Nice work! Thanks!

Jason, your passion and highly professional presentations are oddly under-appreciated on this forum. This is truly excellent image researching and writing in both parts of your two-part compilation.

My sense is that you could do the same with any culturally-intriguing subject you cared to devote time to. You ought to consider having discussions with a few agents that shop projects to book publishing entities.

Show them your blogs and mention that you're interested in creatively producing a highly marketable, quality printed volume that would feature similarly well-researched & imaged, expertly described visual disquisitions on a broad variety of significant sports and entertainment subjects that the general domestic and international public has a demonstrable appetite for.

Obtaining rights and permissions for many or most of the images would be a daunting, but entirely solvable part of the process. A good agent will guide you in that regard.

Arnaldo, thank you for the very kind comments. My posts do require a great deal of research and writing, but receiving comments like yours makes it worth it every time. I have considered the idea of coverting the posts into something published. Other priorities keep interfering, but the idea remains appealing.
