Spring Fever 2004 Tournaments Results

WOW ! What a Weekend.

The players began coming in late Thursday night and early Friday morning; by Friday afternoon the poolroom was full of both familiar and unfamiliar faces. The matching up had started Thursday night, but the first tournament event was the Junior 9-Ball Tournament Friday night.

1st – Joseph “Tarrant City Fats” Cole, Tuscaloosa, AL
2nd – Scotty Napier, Poplar Bluff, MO

$500 Entry Progressive Ring Game

The $500 Entry Progressive Ring Game followed the Junior 9-Ball Tournament Friday night.. There were 8 players and it lasted about 5 hours. The game values started at $20 per game and increased every 10 games or every hour which ever came first. The game value increments were: $20; $40; $100; $200; $400; and All-In. The shooting order was also redrawn every 10 games with the winner of the last game retaining the break.

Payout is the dollar and the number in brackets is the game the player went out on.

1st or Last Man Standing – Chuck Raulston, Popular Bluff, MO - $2,500
2nd or Last Man Out – Scotty Waters, Tuscaloosa, AL - $1,000 [48]
3rd – “Coach” Keith Morgan, Starkville, MS - $500 [36]
4th – Jimmy Springfield, Birmingham, AL [31]
5th – Harold McAbee., Tuscaloosa, AL [31, 5th due to less money]

Open 9-Ball Tournament

The Open 9-Ball Tournament started Saturday morning and was played down to 16 players, eight on the winner’s and eight on the loser’s side. These players returned Sunday to determine the winner. While there were only 33 players, it was a strong field indeed.

Results
Following the player is the prize money and the first and second calcutta payouts, respectively, are given in brackets.

1st – Brian Groce, Columbus, IN - $700 [$1,112 and $225]
2nd – George Breedlove, Indianapolis, IN - $500 [$834 and $135]
3rd – Sam Gilmer, Starkville, MS - $350 [$556 and $90 ]
4th – Jeff Beckly, Indianapolis, IN - $200 [$278]
5th/6th – Scotty Waters, Tuscaloosa AL - $100
5th/6th - Steve Pate, Birmingham, AL - $100
7th/8th – Rick Howard, Panama City, FL- $50
7th/8th - Scotty Townsend, Monroe, LA - $50 each

$1,500 Entry Progressive Ring Game

The $1,500 Entry Ring Game was played Saturday Night following the first round of the 9-Ball Open. Several players either failed to show or withdrew for one reason or another and we ended up with four players and it lasted about 5 hours. The game values started at $50 per game and increased every 10 games or every hour which ever came first. The game value increments were: $50; $100; $250; $500; $1,00; and All-In. The shooting order was also redrawn every 10 games with the winner of the last game retaining the break.

1st or Last Man Standing – Denver Barger, Columbus, IN – $4,000
2nd or Last Man Out- Jonathan Hennessee, Manchester, TN - $2,000
3rd – George Breedlove, Indianapolis, IN
4th – Chuck Raulston, Poplar Bluff, MO

I will make a separate post on this form that may help others avoid the problems we encountered with players failing to show for the ring game and to specify the procedures that we will use in the future.

Personally, I think most people thought it was a great weekend. There were some outstanding shots made, some good action matches, and many friends made. I look forward to the Fall Follies, in fact I am trying to nail down the date now. Hope to see you in the fall.
