I'm building an enclosesure for spraying and have the box made, and a high end range hood on top,($20 at salvage store) vented outside. What is stumping me is how to design the drive system. I am going to go with a high torque windshield wiper motor, 65rpm. But not sure what to use for the spindle pulleys/ drive belts, and what to use for the other side to hold the tip of a shaft/ pin of a butt. Any ideas/photos would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys,
Dave

Live center on the butt side works great. You can snug fit it into your box and cut a delrin or even plastic ring to let it ride on.. The other end , go to taig mill and you can get a spring loaded pointed center to use that gives you about 2 inches of adjustment there. This works great for your cues and holds very well.
As far as the drive pulley system. A chain drive is easy mounting it outside the hood facing up at the ceiling , cut a small oval hole in the side of your hood and run the chain thru to your fan. Any small fan blade will work. Just build a brace system inside the hood facing up as well, using threaded rod , cut down the end 2 to 3 inches to a smooth dowel, insert your blade onto it , using the threaded rod, run it thru your fixture and use 2 nuts tightened to each other on eather side. This will give you any height adjustment you may need and allow the fan to spin on your fixture.
The fixture can be made out of wood with some sealed bearing in it for your threaded rod to slide thru. Then hook your chain up to it(using a drive pulley) and their you are. Make sence?

Also Dave, watch going a different way and using any type of motor inside the hood. Explosive things may happen. Just my 2 cents,

Thanks for the tip on Taig, that live center is the right piece IMO. I may order an extra one for my Atlas lathe so I stop running my router into the ones I use now:D As far as the drive, I apologize, I actually meant the drive of the rotating spindles. The fan is driven by an induction motor that is variable speed. It has 2 squirrel cages attached. If I run it to high it'll take my shirt off, LOL:D
Thanks again,
Dave

Dave -

I have a box of pullys that I was going to use to build a booth. Even if I ever get to it, I'm not going to build one as large as originally planned, so when you come by to get the linen this week, you can take a couple of pully's if you want. I also have a bunch of extra skateboard bearings.

Also Chris Hightower also sells that spring loaded live center. It is great for doing shafts.

Spray Booth

I use a BBQ rotisserie motor. I threw in some bearings and made some pullies. It works pretty well...looks like crap but works well.

Dave,
Use a bike chain and sprockets. hook a cheap slow gear motor up and let her rip. If you go to grainger you will pay a ton for this stuff but if you can weld all can be done pretty cheap.

On another note...

How is everyone spraying their cues: horizontally or vertically and spinning or still? Just curious..

I am looking at building a spray booth. I am tired of emptying out the garage everytime I want to paint. I purchased an explosion proof fan. Would anyone be willing to post some pics so I can get some ideas on how to proceed?

Easiest way I have seen is a 55 gallon drum with spindles in both ends and a hole cut in the side. I have a squirl cage fan outside connected to the drum by flex hose. I am putting together a better one right now. I will post some pics when it is done. Chris.
