SS sleeved over phenolic

Hi all,

In my last thread, which asked the question what joints are on cuemakers personal cues. Thanks to all who responded BTW.

Many who responded with flat faced joint said they threaded a steel collar over phenolic.

Just wondering what the reasoning is for this. Does steel glue better to phenolic than wood or something?

Phenolic will not "move" as readily as wood will due to changes in humidity, etc. Wood will glue to phenolic a lot better than it will glue to metal.
I'm not sure it would be as necessary with threads as it would be with a thin-walled slip on collar.
