Stainless Steel Collar Removal???'s

Can the stainless steel collar on a cue be removed?

Purpose: To remove steel collar to replace the collar and ring below it.

I have a custom with rings A thru E.

C-E are rosewood with a metal ring, A+B are black phenolic with a metal ring.

I would like all the ring positions to match.

Yes, they are screwed on. The problem is they are usually glued and screwed. Glue can be softened with heat, but it might be hard to heat the collar enough to soften the glue without discoloring the stainless.

On the other hand, sometimes they simply come loose on their own.

Taking it off is easy. It takes about a minute with a lathe and a piece of leather.

Putting it back on is a different story.
