Standard Pocket Sizes

One AZer wrote asking why practice with pocket reducers?

But why? They suck for playing actual games or ghost, and if you're talking practice, shooting between two golf tees or balls will do the same thing. Those things really suck for actual games or playing the ghost.​

I haven't yet bought the reducers but Ron the Pool Student found them helpful. They are an imperfect substitute for smaller pockets since they do not mimic exactly a smaller-pockets table.

Where is the measurement taken from to determine pocket sizes?

Why isn't pocket size standardized? Pool is only game/sport in which target/goal size can be changed at a whim.

Forget about pockets. Table size isn't even standardized.

Even if some master Pool Agency issued a decree on pocket size tomorrow, I doubt hall owners are going to throw out their tables and replace them, or have them re-engineered.
