Standing on etiquette.

Sitting as a rule

These two posts pretty well sum it up for me.

It always bothers me a little (I'll never show it though) when a player gets up to move out of my line of sight. It changes them from background scenery to a moving object. If you look like furniture in the background you'll never shark somebody.

All the responders seem to be ignoring part of the original question, "What if it's a rule that you must be seated between innings?"

I personally think it's a good rule. But others have posted good reasons for standing...bad back or for a better view. And of course, many "pool halls" don't have adequate seating.

In any of these scenarios, I might inform my opponent about my back problems, move very slowly to a better viewing position, or ask where you can sit to obey the rule...

QUOTE]Yea I kinda didn;t respond to that either. If it was a rule that you sit, I sit as much as possible, but would also let the other person know that I may need to stand up sometimes. They are usually cool about it.

You are correct, I for one did not specifically address that part of the question, but I think part of my response still applies:

Of course, we need to always keep in mind that, in the end our league play isn't <that> important, and not to take ourselves too seriously. If someone isn't sitting, or is moving around, just take it in stride. We're playing in bars or busy pool rooms, after all. There's always going to be movement around us.

If there's a rule that you must sit, but you can't for whatever reason, working it out, explicitly, beforehand with your opponent is the way to go.

I think asking your oponent before the match if they mind if you stand between shots is a good idea. There's no grey area if both players understand the reason behind it.

Best,

yes very good

I'm a sitter.

I always liked the coolness of Allison Fisher when she was in a match, sitting in judgment, nearly emotionless.

So I sit... and pretend I'm Allison... except for when I'm cursing or throwing a fit, or, well you know, behaving badly.

Sometimes I dress up as Allison, at home, away from the hustle and bustle of the pool room. Dutchess of Doom... yeah, that's it.

wow Sportsmanship I knew somebody would do the right thing :-)
