Starter's kit

A pool club was started at my university last year and it is really starting to take off. Just this past week I had 2 people approach me about buying their first cue.

That got me thinking as to what would be a great starter's kit to get them into the game. Here is what I came up with.

Cue
joint protectors
1x1 case
tip tapper
tip shaper (Willard's dime is my preferred)
chalk
Q-wiz

What do you guys think? Anything you would add to or remove from the list?

I am also posting a thread in the Wanted/For Sale forum asking for a package like this for around $160 shipped (as that is my friend's budget) http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?p=2250026#post2250026

Add moose head bridge to your starter kit list, its only $2.50 from AZB Marketplace. I can justifying a set a joing protectors as cheap insurance on a $1000 cue, but not on a players cue in your price range. Your money could better spent elsewhere. If you're doing a group buy, consider adding gloves as an optional item.

If you're constantly reach out for Q-Wiz, Tip tapper and tip shape, then you're over using them and will end up wearing down the shaft and tip. I think overusage is worst than just leaving it alone.

cue
chalk
hard 1 x 1 case
willards shaper
leather burnisher
and a pamphlet on the rules of the game 9ball 8ball and 14.1

I did not include any sandpaper or a similar product as i think it ruins the shaft. Also, if you have a shaper you dont really need a tapper. Have a second more expensive kit available for those who might feel they don't belong in the "starter kit" group.

Yeah, I agree on the overuse thing. But after playing for a few weeks, you definitely need something to clean the shaft with and the Q-wiz works great and it's cheap and easy to wash for using again. It is extremely important to show people what to do with the Q-wiz, though. I saw one guy just going at it with the abrasive side....thought he was taking dirt off when it was wood...not cool. Luckily it's not very abrasive so he didn't do any real damage.

As for the tip tapper and shaper, I hardly ever use my shaper, but I will use a tip tapper or tip pik about once a week.
