Starting early vs. starting late

I'm sure most would agree that those that stared playing pool early (lets say before they were 10) and learned the correct way to play, have gone on to be good shooters. Almost all of the greats have a similar story "I started when I was 5 shooting on a crate in my uncles pool hall".

Are there any pro players that started in their 20s, or even 30s and have gone on to do well? I think Schmidt was not playing for too long before he got really good, and started pretty late, but that's going from some not so great memory.
