Statistics about Pool in USA

Putting finishing touches on our proposal for the Money Players show. We are looking for hard numbers to do with how many people play pool every week, how much they spend, how it compares to other participation sports, etc. Also any guesstimates about how pool compares to other games in terms of betting annually. One other area is "Guiness Book of World Records" type "fun facts" such as longest session ever, most money won in one match, etc. Any help finding this kind of info is very appreciated!

I doubt there have been any studies to come up with "hard" numbers, only estimates extrapolated from the total number of pool halls/bars with pool tables out there and even that number is probably quite difficult to come up with.

That study from SGMA is really helpful. Great lead, thanks!

I'm sure that wagering estimates are a lot harder to find . . .

Similar market research companies are where I think you'd find it. I'm sure someone has done studies to that effect, but unfortunately I don't know who and whether or not they are willing to make the information public, fee or no fee.

Perhaps reaching out to some of the online betting websites? Perhaps they might be able to at least point you in the right direction.

The only other groups I can think of that would commission those types of studies would be the GCB, but I doubt it would include pool in the list of options. It would probably be coded as an "other" response when asked what sports a person bets on, assuming the study isn't just focusing on lottery and casino betting.

I think your best bet (haha), unless someone else has some other ideas, if you're willing accept rough figures is to create a poll here and also perhaps at some other forums. The feedback wouldn't be proper market research, but it's something.
