Steel Block Rail

Now that I have your attention ... I've been learning about snooker tables and found that "Steel Block" rails are espoused by some snooker advocates. I don't think Brunswick has used this in any of their tables over the years. I might be wrong. This looks a lot more complicated than what I'm used to. What are your experiences and opinions. http://www.titansports.co.uk/products/images/cushion.jpg

My opinion is that they had a good idea but didn't carry it off.

Replace that wood that the cushion is mounted on with some appropriately sized square steel tubing, and you might have something.

That rail won't be any better than the wood strip bearing the cushion is.

The rails use less of the slate's playing surface for mounting but the blind nuts mounted in the slate doesn't look good to me.

The blind nuts are the same setup when t-rails were used on old tables. This is the first I've seen the steel blocks used
but would hazard a guess that they contribute to a more consistent foundation for the cushions.
