steel joint question

yesterday at the pool rool when looking at some cues it was noted the thickness of the steel outside ring was thicker on his joss cue compared to his schon cue
ie the space from the pin to the inner surface of the steel was smaller on the joss
leading us to conclude the steel to shaft contact area was greater on the joss than the schon
hypothetically what difference if any would that do to the hit or playability???
another surprising thing was i have 2 shafts 5/16x14 that i put 2 different tips on and wanted his opinion of them
he plays much better than i do
he tried both shafts on the joss
and both on his schon
he was able to get significantly more english with the shafts when used on his scon
fwiw he has owned the schon for 20 years (or more)
the joss is from the mid 1990s but he just started using it the past few weeks
(his schon is a fancy one and he wanted a plainer cue to shoot with to be alittle more low key)

I NEED TO BE MORE ACCURATE AND SAY THE DIFFERENCE IN DRAW ESPECIALLY AND FOLLOW WAS MARKEDLY DIFFERENT WITH THE SCHON BUTT

lol, my thoughts.... anyone who thinks the butt of the cue does not effect playability is missing something.

You are correct,the bored hole in a standard Joss SS joint is .500 or so.

Schon's is closer to .530,and the fit is TIGHT between the pilot on the shaft and the bore in the stainless.

Gus had it RIGHT,the compression fit is the way to go with that type joint. Tommy D.
