Still no results from Stix 14.1 tourney?

Surely someone's heard something.

I THINK this is how it went down...

1st Calvin Coker
2nd Jose Parica

Not sure about the rest but I know Frank "dabarber" Almanza was still living in the 5/6 spot. He might have gotten higher.

Carl Wilson Jr, Max Eberle, Ernesto and Oscar Dominguez were all around in the next spots.

I had to leave.

Saw some good matches but no real big runs. Oscar (who posts on here) played well and IMO will be a force in a short while. He is still pretty young at 22. "Da barber" ( who posts on here) played well also and beat Max on the winners side.

I had never heard of Calvin Coker but everyone else there had heard of him. He played very aggressive at times but thought real well or at least appeared to me to think the patterns and racks out well.

I think they had 53-58 or around that many players.

Seemed to be a well run and organized event.

Thats awsome that calvin coker won. Im in one of his leages and have been watching him practice the last couple weeks. I heard the first day that his opponent broke and he ran 91, so I knew he had a good start.

I only stayed there till the end of the Coker/Parica match where Parica lost. After that I just left. It was great being able to watch that tourney. Does anybody have the official results?

Hello everyone,

I am Roger Tafoya, the promoter of the event over the weekend at Stix. I will have the official results for you very quickly.

Thank you for your patience,

Southern California 14.1 Straight Pool Tournament Results

Hello Everyone,

First of all, I thank all of you for your interest in the event I had over the weekend at Stix Billiards. Second, let me thank all of those that participated in the tournament and all those that showed up to watch as fans. I want to give a special thanks to the family at Stix Billiards for letting me use their room and accommodating all the players. And to Mike P. (Tournament Director) and Joe Harto (Referee), thank you very much for all your hard work. Running any tournament of a larger size can be a little difficult at times, but running a Straight Pool Tournament at almost a full field in only 2 days, can be grueling. I truly believe that, those of you that stopped by to watch, witnessed something very special. The lost art of playing... 14.1 Straight Pool.

Back to the tournament...We had a field of 57 players. Some came from Wisconson, Washington, Arizona, Northern California and many from throughout Southern California. That just shows that Straight Pool is still alive and kicking.

Here are the official results:

1st - Calvin Coker
2nd - Jose Parica
3rd - Frank "The Barber" Almanza
4th - Oscar Dominguez
5th - Carl Wilson Jr.
6th - Ernesto Dominguez
7th - Aaron Aragon
8th - Danny Petralba
9th - John Plunkit
10th - Max Eberle
11th - Eric Harada
12th - Angelo Yap
13th - Jeff Heath
14th - Omar Vachhan
15th - Fred Jarvis
16th - Fach Garcia

High Run: Calvin Coker (91)

The Final was a Single race to 125 points and what a match it was. Calvin and Jose are going back and forth in points through out the match. Not a lot of high runs but implementing classic safeties and using the strategies needed to succeed in this game. The score reaches 104 Coker and Parica 100 and Parica is at the table. Parica gets on a run and gets to his 123rd ball and overcuts it into the rail. Calvin Coker steps up to the table and never lets Parica back...He ran 21 and out!

I should've stayed...looks like I missed a great game. Congrats to Calvin, for the win. btw, what was the prize money?
