Straight in shot test

I practice this shot on a snooker table A LOT. Played 100 a while ago (just stopping the white ball dead) and got 89. A video of me practicing the shot: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bzH7XUkJXbw

Didn't watch the whole video but you do have a very nice smooth stroke.

Do you know if your elbow drops when you shoot this shot?
Just curious as you cue remains level after a nice, long, smooth, follow-through.

Thanks,
JoeyA

Yeah, my elbow drops fully on every shot. After about halfway I switch pockets and you can get a better look at my arm.

I know a lot of people do this as a drill or to warm up, what is roughly your make % on this shot with 1. follow 2. stop 3. draw
I used to do this all the time when I was really trying to bring up my game. I started out trying for 5 in a row before I could quit. Once I could do that, I went to 10, then 15, then.... you get the idea. I worked my way up to 50. Man was I playing good back then.

When I'm trying to get in shape to play now, I try for 15 or 20 in a row. Seems impossible if I've been laying off for a few weeks, but it is always doable.

One thing you can do is draw a line on the table a few inches past the cue ball and make sure your cue is right over the line on each follow through. You'll quickly see if you're veering left or right. I found that I was veering left and was able to correct it with this drill.

Good luck.

I used to wonder why I can't run that many balls in straight pool. Then I realized that if I can't run 50 of these "easy" shots in a row, I have no business running 50 balls in straight pool!

Starting with this shot is like going to a driving range and the first club you pull out of the bag is a 3 iron......start with some 8 iron shots first.

Even though straight in..this shot has very little room for error.....The OB is a fair distance away from the pocket and then the CB is also a fair distance away from the OB....

Just being a little offline is magnified based on the distance of the shot.

Bottom of the ball is a great visual for straight in shots...(I do that myself for both CB and OB)...but you must already have identified that the shot is actually a straight in shot.

Check this....Is the CueTable diagram in the OP actually a dead straight in shot???????

For those straight in shots...here is something I have stumbled onto that may help you........I have recently been using this on all shots, but even the near straight in shots this has proven useful to me......for both shot alignment and shape for the next shot.

Instead of looking "OB to pocket" or "CB to OB"....start by looking "CB to pocket".......When you stand directly behind the CB (to pocket) the straight line will be an instant reference to tell you if the OB needs to be cut slightly to the left, or slightly to the right.

I was shooting this long straight draw shot last night, trying to draw back to around Point A for the 4-Ball. As you may notice, the 3-Ball isnt too far from the corner pocket. You would assume this was an easy ball to pocket.

And i hate to admit it, but i bet i shot this shot 20-25 times and missed the 3-Ball around half the time. Also, i got the CB to draw straight back for position on the 4-Ball probably only a couple of times.

I must have some serious flaws.....:frown:

CueTable Help

For what its worth......i shot this same shot tonight several times and did a whole lot better. got some of them to pretty much draw back to where i wanted, a couple even pretty straight.

Pool sure is a funny game, seems like things change from night to night...

Shot 9 balls in a row the first set, stop shots only, made 5.

Shot 9 more balls in a row the second set, stop shots only, made 9. :D

Didn't want to risk breaking that record drawing the ball or following. lol

I'm going to go downstairs and give it awhirl. Joey, you and Neil should go on a comedy tour.

Imagine

LOL! So you go and add the biggest part of the "secret" that I left out!:D

One day there won't be any secrets left.

Imagine there's no squerving
It's easy if you try
No shots go missing.
No need to ask why
Imagine all the players
Making money all day.

Got a snooker table handy? Put the cue ball in the jaws of one corner, the 5(blue) on its spot, then fire the 5 into the far corner. See how many times out of 10 tries you can make that one. :)

I wish I had my practice log for snooker. I use to practice this all of the time with my best being, I think, 7, my usual was 3-4. Tough, tough drill! Last month I played snooker for the first time in a long while, played 6 or 7 games and had a few 40+ and a 50+ run (with a pool cue). If I would have had my snooker cue and a few more games, I think an 80+ or even a 100+ would have been made.
