straight pool in rotation!?!?

Hi all, I have been reading this forum for about 9 months and never really had a reason to sign up because I really had nothing to say, just always read your guys's great storie, well I finally have one of my own so I have taken the initiative to sign up and share it with you.

I attended a weekly 8 ball tournament in Minneapolis the other week, it was an 8 ball tournament on bar box diamond tables. It was an open tournament and is known for its tough players so I went up to watch hoping to learn from the pros (as I did)
the final match was amazing watching the players run out very difficult racks. After the tournament was over I asked the winner if we would care to play a while with me, to my surprise he said, "sure." and I offered to play some cheap sets to make it worth his while, in which he replied we dont have to, we'll just play. Great I thought! We started with some 8 ball and he asked me if I wanted to play straight pool, race to 50, he said I can shoot at any ball, but his handicap is after he is up to the table he must play in rotation of the first ball he pockets

.
What!?!? I thought. Is this guy serious!? jokingly I asked him are you sure you dont want to gamble? He said we can play cheap for like $20 but we'll race to 100 balls. Ok I said feeling awfully guilty at that point.
I offered to break and did so leaving him a shot, he looked at the table for a very long time, and then made the ball and then got position on the next ball in order!?!? I didnt even see what happen!? and proceeded to run the rack out! in order! I started paying attention to it after he made the first few balls. He was getting shape on balls which looked like totally complete luck! but he was doing it consistently, rack after rack. This was on a bar table to which would even make it harder in my opinion. He would set himself up for what looked to be very low percentage shots on balls and put them in and get perfect position even after breaking up clusters.
and he beat me 100 to 33, Im a pretty good player to. I would have bet alot of money on this!

so I ask him what the heck are you doing here!?!? Why isnt he out at pro events making millions! or atleast thousands!, He replied he is not good enough but it was nice of me to ask that. I was puzzled at that response. As what I have witnessed was the best pool I have ever seen played in my life.

my questions to all you is, am I overly impressed here? Are really good players just able to do stuff like this? I have never seen anything like this in my life in all my years of pool. I was very impressed. Thoughts?

elaboration

How long were his runs?

Can he play safe off any numbered ball or does he have to hit the next ball in order each time?

ok sorry, let me try to explain a bit clearer. Everytime I miss and he is up to the table, he does not necessarily have to start at the one, ball he can take any ball, (he could take the 14 for example) and then hit in the 15 all the way to the 13, sounds impossible right? but then! I would try to strategecilly place the 14 (or the next ball in order) in the middle of the rack so he couldnt get a shot on it. and most the time he didnt which is the only time I got up to the table, when he got back to the table after I missed, at that point he could pick any ball on the table and run it in sequencial order until his next miss.

It was amazing guys.. I wish I could video tape it.. honestly I am a better player that I could have probally get more than 33 balls on him, but in the back of my head I really wanted to miss so I could continune watching him play (I realize this sounds like a horses *** excuse and should be placed in the excuse thread lol) It cost me $20 but I would easily be ok with paying $100 just to watch him play.

his high runs were around 15-30, Like I said the only time he really missed is when I buried his next sequencial ball on the re-rack, otherwise he was making unbeleiveable shots and getting position on his next ball everytime.
