Hey Guys :)

I have been pondering about how much it would be cool to see a straight pool match being played on a 10ft pool table, like they used to be played on years ago by the legeneds of the game, like Crane, Mosconi, Carras, etc, and decided that it would be worth asking if any of you guys would be interested in matching up against another player and videoing the match for us guys on here? :)

I thought it would be kinda interesting to see how the runs would fair out, etc, and also, it would be a good way to see how quickly a player can adapt to the larger shooting area :)

What do you guys think? :)

Well, we do have a 10 footer at the Illinois Billiard Club.

And I do have the ability to video a match.

However, the level of my play is not so very great.

Maybe I could get Ed Latimer who plays pretty well to play a game with me.

I wonder if Bobby Hunter would do it after the tournament.

Remind me when I get back next week.

Sounds good Dennis :), I'll keep an eye out on the thread over the next week or so :)

I played on one a few years ago and I was surprised how well I ran balls. Long shots I guess were a little tougher, but I found it to be perhaps a little easier because the balls had plenty of room to spread around and stay out of the way of one another. I think it really depends on the size of the pockets whether it's tougher or easier than a 9 footer.

I'm glad that you have said this BP, as I thought that high runs may have been a little easier, purely because of what you have mentioned that there is a little more room for the balls to move around, so that there isn't as much traffic problems in the rack area, but again I imagine that as you say, the pocket size and shelf depth would play a big part in the ball count also :)

In saying that, it would still be pretty awesome to see a match being played on a 10' table :)

interesting ...i played most of my pool on a 10' brunswick in the 50`s...i`m short 5'8" and really learned how to use the mech.bridge i had a high run of 53 on that table and some 20`s /30`s.......willie gave a couple of ex. on that table and really only played in a 5'x5' area...rarely had a long shot..the difference i see today .the players smash into the cluster and spread the balls all over the table...on a 5x10 i think there would be too many long shots...imho.....

I'd love to see a couple top players play 14.1 on a 5 X 10. Schmidt comes to mind simply because I know he plays snooker and the long shots don't bother him. Back in the day in Detroit, many of the old time rooms had a 5 X 10. I confess that I never played on them too much, but now I wish I had, and if I had the space one would be my first choice for a personal table...Tom

It would be interesting to see a rematch between John Schmidt and Mike Sigel played on a 5 x 10, and to at least 150 points.
I'd be willing to pay to see that match.

You could definitely count me in on that one too

That is one of the beauties about straight pool, it's a game where it is better to learn how to run balls and have good concentration, but also being able to learn good rack management, without trying to blast the stack into dust :) lol

I't love to be able to shoot a match on a 5x10, but my location, lack of bankroll and lack of pool halls in my area kinda makes it impossible :(
