straighten

I have an older Tad that has a roll. I think the roll is in forearm. I have two questions.

1) Is there an effective way to straighten it. I understand it will not be perfect again, but close is good.

2) Tad's oringinal finish on the forearm appears to be coming off. Could this cause the wood to take on moisture. I don't know much about Tad's finish, I assumed it was absorbed into the wood and continued to protect.

I already contacted Fred Kuahara (sp?) and he can't help me. I am looking for a second opinion.

Is this common with older Tad's???

there isnt a real effective way to straighten that i know of. you can try finding the high spot and putting a book on it or something but it doesnt gurantee anything. even if you get it straight it prob wont stay straight.

as for the finish i believe tad still use a lacquer finish. just needs a refinish.

i recommend proficient billiards.

i talked to fred on a tad i had once and he wasnt much help either. :frown:

Replacing the handle is the best route, assuming it is the handle that warped. Handle replacement and refinish run aprox $300 or so. Chris.

Chris,
Is there an easy way to tell where the roll is. When I roll the cue on a pool table (without a shaft) the joint does a small rotation. The handle and butt cap don't come off the clothe. Could it be the taper??

It could happen to any cue, difficult to pin point without spinning it between centers.

Put the butt between centers on a lathe and check . From what you described sounds like the pin may have some run out . How do the faces mate up at the joint ? If the cue plays well I wouldn't worry so much . It's alot more common than you realize .

Thanks for the information.

Thanks for the information everyone. The cue plays outstanding. I know how Tad got such a strong reputation. I will leave it alone, for now.

jdsons.

Rep for everyone. Even you Patrick, for the PM. Thanks.
