Strange Wood

Cory Barnhart recently did a conversion for me . I thought the wood was purple heart . He showed the cue to Dick Abbott who told him was a very early cue. The wood is purple in color and smells like gunpowder when cut . It was extreamly difficult to work with and has a white fungus or somthing that is completely even throught the grain of the wood.

What is this stuff ?

I'll post a picture as soon as the cue arrives.

Purple Heart sometimes has some sort of white fungus in the grain. When turning I sometimes see it.

I think You mean "Fungi",
since its only one cue
just kiddin"
I have seen alot of purpleheart cut, with white appearing,
But
never did it smell like gunpowder

I have two that I am converting now that smell the exact same way. They look like purpleheart but smell like gunpower. I didn't notice any fungus, though.
