Stroke question

I've heard that one good test of a stroke is to set up a fairly long straight-in shot.

The other day I was trying this, with the OB a couple feet away from the corner pocket, and noticed that I got the best results when I completely relaxed -- and then lined the shot up, and thought only about "activating" my bicep.

I'm still relatively new to pool. The above stroke seems like something easier to use (or at least learn) when not striking the CB gently.

Is this something I should continue to practice and incorporate into my game?

Thanks.

Shoot the one in with a pure stroke, and get to the 2 ball.
Without an almost perfect stroke and hit on the cb, you cannot get to the 2 ball.

The stroke you describe is just one stroke out of many, Sam. I like to experiment with lots of different englishes applied to the cue-ball to perfect my stroke. The most important thing is being comfortable over the ball, and hopefully, the rest will come natural for you.
