Stupidity of 9-ball

I was just in a tournament where I had to give up three games in a race to five. It took two mistakes or bad rolls and two good or lucky shots for me to get knocked out of the tournament because it was a one loss.

So luck CAN play a major roll in nineball, no pun intended, but that should;ve never happened and likely wouldn't happen the majority of the time.

So will the better player always win, no..... but he/she will win the majority.

I think the original post gave the impression that the luck helped a weaker player keep up with a better player. The thing about luck both good and bad is it always favors the better player. A good player when he gets good rolls becomes a great player. A weak player when he get a good roll often does nothing with it. A good player when he gets a bad roll will deal with it as best he can. A weak player when he gets a bad roll become helpless. It's a fallacy that rolls make any difference at all. although in the sudden death format of a tournament it could make a difference in the short run but don't expect the weaker player to go on to win the tournament based on rolls and gambling it means nothing at all.

nineball vs. poker

when i'm playing 9ball, i try to view the 'rolls' as a poker game. sometimes you get 'em, sometimes they get you. it keeps me from bringing guns into the situation ;) if pool were pure skill, who would we get to gamble with us?
