Does anyone know if the date has been finalized for the Subic Olongapo Open this year? It is scheduled for 16 March, but there has been no info posted on this tournament this year.

If anyone on AZ is associated with Raya Sports, would you please post the dates, any local hotels that you recommend for players, and state if there will be qualifier rounds in Quezon City like last year? If there are qualifier rounds, what is the date and time they will be held, and where?

Can any player enter this tournament, or is it invitation / qualifier entry only? Can any player enter the qualifier tournaments (regardless of nationality)? If so, what is the cost of entry?

Is there a quality pool room in the Subic area, and if so where?

Thanks to any Pinoy AZer's that can help out with some information. The PI is doing great with sponsoring good tournaments, but they could improve greatly in the communications aspect of promoting the tournaments to foreigners. Now is the time to promote this tournament, not two days before it is held.

Earth to the Philippines, come in please....

Raya Sports,....

Anyone,....

Really??

I spent several months in Subic Bay during VietNam, a great place for a single guy, I left my heart several times in Subic Bay.......Tom

Check with Anito Kid for info. He should have some intel for you on this tourney...

Thanks Bayawak. I believe that I already sent him a request on this, but I will double check. I am concerned that the tournament in Japan will conflict with the Subic tournament and cause a cancellation. That is a long trip to see an empty auditorium.

Yeah, me too! I've been over a few times in the last several years. Enjoyed the hospitality of Mister Edwin Reyes and Sir Linds. Married a Filipina from Cagayan De Oro who turned out to be just a scammer looking for a visa.... Oh Well Sh!t Happens, I've moved on and still plan to retire in the Philippines in a few years. The people are the nicest, friendliest, and happiest people I've ever met! In most areas the Americans are treated very well but there are dangerous areas and elements to be cautious of. As seen by the unfortunate demise of "Bandito" who was very well loved world wide and in his home teritory!

Now I'm thinking about a trip to the Phils for this tournament, but I hate to endure a 23 hour flight without staying long enough to make it worthwhile, like say 2-3 months and it's very hard to make those arrangements. lol

I remember that era quite well.

Here's a photo from that era.

Yeah, I have been checking there, and I even sent the guy an email about 3 or 4 weeks ago. Nothing, nada, walah... The website and his Tweeter Dee account have not been updated since the World Championships in November, and things like tournament dates have a way of changing month to month. Of course Dragon Promotions hasn't done much better this year either. I guess it takes so much planning and contract negotiations that they just cannot project a firm date more than a month or so out. The only good info I can find so far is on the WPA site, as they have a 2010 schedule with tentative dates.

I am sure two days before the event there will be a press release on this tournament. Of course, by then it is about 5 weeks too late to buy a reasonably priced ticket.

I did enjoy the old photo that was posted. You guys were having too much fun for the 60's Dude. Then again, that was before women began to surgically implant cell phones to their ear.
Man, those were the good ol days!
