Suitable tip for a Revo 12.4?

Hey,

I recently changed to a Revo 12.4 and would like to change the tip. First thing i noticed when playing the shaft was that it feels very stiff, very direct, almoust metallic. So I'm hoping for some experience of yours which tips might be most suitable for Revo shafts.

🙄 theres no answer to that question. What feels Good to me sucks to you. That’s the way Revos play. Maybe you just don’t like the way a revo plays and that’s ok. Put a soft tip on it and see what you think From there.

I have 2 Revo 12.4 shafts. I have had the tips replaced on both with new Predator Victory Soft tips. One of the shafts is as expected. The other tip plays and sounds like a hard tip. I suspect the tip on your shaft is just too hard.

Mine doesn’t feel stiff at all
There’s a variance with them that’s not very helpful
Mines is very light and the zan soft really hits super nice with it on my 12.4

I had the 11.8 revo that hit exactly like you described even heavier than my 12.4

On cf in general. All the cf shafts i've tried are stiff and cb comes off too hot for me. Need to try something softer unless you like the cb coming off the tip at warp speed.

You mentioned the way it hits, but I didn't see the part where you didn't like it. Just commentary on hit.
To read into that, sounds like you prefer a softer feedback. Go w a softer tip. Personally for me, I like that hard ping. You can have your cake and eat it too, just going to take some experimenting w various tips until you find the sweet spot.
If you like that softer feedback implex type hit, you shouldn't have bought a CF. Imo. Hope that helps.

A softer tip makes a huge diff. on cf shafts. Depending on the tip you can get the feel of a good stiff wood shaft just by getting the right tip.
 
CF are stiffer. I would go down a softness to get the wood feel. If you use a hard change to medium, If you use a medium use a soft etc.

Well I bought it out of interest to see if I like it or not. I guess you just have to buy and try. I played a high quality custom wood shaft using a Kamui medium tip which made a very good combination of good cue ball control with a solid hit.
Now the medium tip on the Revo feels a little hard at first glance. whereas, I struggle to say if it's mainly the hit of the shaft or the combination of both, tip and shaft.
So I thought of changing it to a softer one but I don't know the advantages and disadvantages of softer tips on CF shafts in terms of playability and durability. Of course I know that this all depends on personal preferences. But maybe some of you might then say not to use these or those tips on CF shafts for any specific reason... Difficult control, or that it won't last long, or that it hardens quite fast.
So my thought was, if there are some softer tips which you would agree on that would be worth trying.
 
Most new wood shafts come with a Medium to hard tip whereas most new carbon come with a soft tip. The carbon has harder feel to the hit. I really feel the hardness of a hit when i try to use my break cue as a playing cue.

Name one wood shaft that comes from factory with a hard tip

Standard JOSS tip is a LePro. Those are pretty damn hard in my book. The J&J import cues like Kaiser/Panther use a really nice hard buffalo tip.

Single layer tips aren't rated for hardness so doesn't count. In any case à Le Pro would be about a medium rather than hard.

sure they count. every le pro i've ever used was hard. OP said nothing about the tip needing to be layered.

3 - 4 degrees of hardness are enough to differentiate hardness ratings, eg Kamui S vs Kamui SS. But there's no generally accepted definition of what hardness corresponds what rating, a soft from one brand will be labeled a medium by another.
