Super Billiards Expo, March 17-20, 2005

I just visited the website for Super Billiards Expo. It is one of the favorite stops in my camp.

I did notice there is not a pro-only event this year, if I am reading it correctly. However, there is an OPEN tournament to amateurs and pros, $300 entry fee, among many of the other activities.

If you're looking for anything pool-related, the vendors will be there in full force offering their products, providing an opportunity to see their wares up front and close, which is nice.

The Scanticon and Radisson Hotels which are connected to the Valley Forge Conference Center are booked up. No surprise here. There are many hotels to choose from nearby, though. Some folks said last year that the Sheraton Park Ridge was fantastic, comfortable beds with all the amenities of home, only a mile from the venue site. Jimmy Reid got a really good deal right up the street at the MacIntosh, I think, a suite with a full kitchen for $79 per night, nice and clean!

Here it is December 2004, and I'm already making plans for March 2005. Those who have attended the Super Billiards Expo know that it is essential book in advance.

And then there's that action table! :p Here's a recap of my experience last year on the rail:

Personal experience makes me book this tournament ahead of time. If you're able to attend, this is one extravaganza worth going to. There's a little something for everybody! :)

Hey JAM ~ they started that $300 entry last year. I think it was a promotional to show off the new Brusnwick bar table.. The event went well and I think (not sure though) that Brandon Ashcraft won it.

VF is the BEST expo out there. It has been around for 13 years now and Alan and his friend Ralph perfect it every year. They also have a great staff that includes, Barbara (she post's here regularly), Red (aka Debbie from Jersey) and others who help make this expo what it is. These gals help make the backbone of this event.

I do believe that there is a Raddison that is connected to the Scanticon. It is just as nice and all inclosed.

If you attend, the pasta bar at the Raddison is the place to meet for food and drinks.

Bob and I will be there, hope to meet more friends form AZ there. JAM ~ See you there!

Eydie, I'm looking forward to hooking up with you guys for sure. :)

Last year, they did have a pro-only event, "2004 Brunswick Pro Players Championship," which Jose Parica won. I don't see that event this year.

See you in Valley Forge, if not sooner, Eydie. Are you going to be able to make it to the Derby, at least for a cameo appearance? Would love to see you there. :)

Eydie,

Thanks for the kind words, but I'm just one of the staffers that makes the event possible. Dawn and Allen Hopkins always look to make the event better with each passing year, and everyone of us learns something new to make things better, too.

I'll be there next year, chained to the amateur tournament desk unless I'm updating the boards. Stop by and say hi!

Barbara

I will be there in booths # 93 and 94 with my cues and cue machinery. I will be surrounded by other International Cuemakers Association members. It will be my first Super Expo. I am looking forward to meeting other AZbilliards posters there. I do hope no flamesters come hang out in my booths though. :)

Barbara tones this down quite a bit ~ Let me tell you all from experience, Barbara along with the rest of the staff is what make the event. The Tournament promoter can have all the great ideas, but without people like Barbara, Debbie, Alan Jr (who I forgot to mention earlier), you can't make it work.

Regardless, it is a great event, great people and the place to be in March. See you all there.

JAM ~ I don't know if I will be at Derby. I am supposed to go with Di, but I don't know yet. Depends on things here.

BTW ~ We do have an event at DISNEY that Keith can play in.

Are you kidding me? I made my reservations for the McIntosh back in October! See you soon!

I agree with your thoughts on the single elimination BUT, VF isn't just about the tournaments, it's a gathering. People go for not only the amateur event, but they go to see the pro's. Alan get's a huge amount of vendors that always manage to do well there. There is so much action and it's always easy to find a game.

Disappointed...but I'll get over it!

What a great time VF is every year. I just emailed Allen/Dawn and asked if maybe (I pray) they forgot to list the Men's Pro Event. I'll be disappointed if there isn't one...but I'll still look forward to going and playing just as much :D

I don't think $75 is all that much for a single elimination event...especially considering it gets you into the Expo all 4 days......I've been going to this event for about 10 years....I've only placed in the money twice (16th-32nd one time and 32nd-64th one time). But at the same time, I've only lost in the first round 2 times (one of them to Dan Whitten last year (the guy that sells Custom Cue Cases--I won the first two games of the first set and then lost 10 in a row---I would have bet Django couldn't beat me 10 games in a row on a bar table--felt like I was in the Twilight Zone. I didn't miss many balls...when he tried to make a ball and miss--I would be safe etc. But I can't wait to play this year.

Eydie--2 years ago Bob knocked me out in the 2nd round. I'm sorry I didn't give him a better match---that year I did miss a lot of balls.

I don't get to play much because I have two young daughters 2 & 6...but I'd go play in this Open Amateur Event even if I hadn't hit a ball in 3 months!! The simple truth is that there are a lot of good players and a lot of bad players. I mean somebody has to play the guys like Chris Loar, Fred Wenker, Dave Daya etc. in the first round  I'm not scared of those guys...based on how much I play they should beat me....but I'm more than capable of beating them on a bar table......as long as I don't DOG my brains out :D

Man I can't believe I'm getting psyched already and it's only December 10th.
I love Valley Forge. I mean come on, gambling table action, NCAA tourney, Open Amateur Event participation, a couple of cases of beer, midnight tournaments at the Pool Hall, some good tunes in the room......damn it doesn't get much better than this....even if you do get knocked out in the 1st round  I have a feeling I'll finish in the money this year......I'm certainly due.

Hope I get to meet some of you guys/girls there! I'm staying at the Sheraton...I always book my room early....as soon as I come back. So my room's been booked since early April 2004!! I just don't feel it's as much fun if you're not staying right there connected to all the action.

Hope a few of you consider coming up to my room and sharing a beer and some good music while we watch the NCAA tournament with the sound muted.......Go Pitt!!! ;)

If you truly love this game, there is absolutely no place to be other than Valley Forge in March!
I've attended & played in every one of the past Expo's and wouldn't miss it for anything.
It has something for everyone, fans, players, exhibitors alike, plus action, action, action.
My reservations are made and I just can't wait.
See you all there, enjoy!
Jim

Jam,

They still show the Brunswick Pro Player Championship Arena area on the floor plan, so I assume it is going to take place again this year. I for one certainly hope so, it seemed to be a success last year.
I will be sure to introduce myself at this year's Expo.

Looking forward to seeing you there, Jim!

On the website, when I hit the REGISTER link for players to sign up, it provides 5 choices:

1. Amateur Open Players Championship, $75 entry fee
2. Womens Amateur Open Players Championship, $75 entry fee
3. Juniors Amateur Open Players Championship, $75 entry fee
4. Seniors Amateur Open Players Championship, $75 entry fee
5. Open Bar Table Championships, $300 entry fee
[Open to ALL players, Pro and Amateur]

Last year, there was a 64-player pro event with 9-foot tables, but I didn't see one planned for 2005.

We're looking forward to it! I'm glad I made my reservations early, too! :)

Eydie, DISNEY sounds dreamy, and I wouldn't miss it for the world, thinking about all the photo opportunities with Keith, Mickey, and Disney gang! :p

Hope you can fit the Derby in. I know that's a busy time of the month for you guys. It's a long trek for us, a 10-1/2-hour drive, weather permitting in the mountains of West Virginia, but it sure is a lot of fun. It takes me a week to recover after I get back home from Louisville (LOL)!

Hi JAM,

I just visited the Super Billiards Expo site and they do indeed have the Brunswick Open 9-Ball Professional Players Championship listed as the Men's Pro Event, thought you may be interested.

See you there!

JAM ~ Was just looking at your pics and remembering all the smoke, UGH! But on the same hand, that smoke only downstairs on the second level of the Expo center. The top floor is non smoking.

Disney is going to be good, I have been working very hard on it lately. We can't have a Disney event without you, mark the date. I will give you a call soon so we can work it out.

Eydie, the downstairs was brutal, and I'm a smoker. It seemed to center around the action table. The upstairs, however, was the best place to hang out because of the vendors, checking out all the wares.

I'm looking forward to Disney. I know there will never be a dull moment. Seems like 2005 is looking great for pool! :)

Hi, Jim! The floor plan displaying the Brusnwick Open 9-Ball Professional Players Championship is the one from 2004.

There isn't a Brusnwick Open 9-Ball Professional Players Championship listed for 2005. The tournament available to pros and amateurs is the Open Bar Table Championship with a $300 entry fee.

We'll be seeing you there! :)
