Leveling a three-piece slate and wanted opinions on people's preferences for superglue and their techniques.
Best Billiards lists Loctite 454, a gel-style glue. In RKC's how-to docs, he indicates that he glues 6-8 inches from each side of the slates and a 6-8 inch section at the center.
My specific questions:
1. This table had been finished at the seams with beeswax. Will this cause a problem with the superglue adhering to the slate without some kind of major cleaning work?
2. Is Loctite 454 the recommended product, or are there other alternatives?
3. I have seen techniques where playing cards are used to space the slates so the superglue will wick into the seam well. Is this recommended? As well-finished as the slate seams are, I hate the idea of inducing a gap, although beeswax/bondo will fill that anyway...
4. Will I need a large tube, or will a 1/3 ounce/3 gram tube do the job for one table?
As always, thanks very much for your opinions. It's really nice to be able to benefit from all of your experience...
