superglue questions

Leveling a three-piece slate and wanted opinions on people's preferences for superglue and their techniques.

Best Billiards lists Loctite 454, a gel-style glue. In RKC's how-to docs, he indicates that he glues 6-8 inches from each side of the slates and a 6-8 inch section at the center.

My specific questions:

1. This table had been finished at the seams with beeswax. Will this cause a problem with the superglue adhering to the slate without some kind of major cleaning work?

2. Is Loctite 454 the recommended product, or are there other alternatives?

3. I have seen techniques where playing cards are used to space the slates so the superglue will wick into the seam well. Is this recommended? As well-finished as the slate seams are, I hate the idea of inducing a gap, although beeswax/bondo will fill that anyway...

4. Will I need a large tube, or will a 1/3 ounce/3 gram tube do the job for one table?

As always, thanks very much for your opinions. It's really nice to be able to benefit from all of your experience...

I use super glue gel alot more than the regular liquid. Loctite works well, Krazy Glue Gel works well...
Haven't tried the Sumo Super Glue yet- don't think it's a good idea for the slate after reading it a bit.
Clean your wax off really well, reheat it a bit if you need to, and the glue should be fine.
I generally go in about 6 inch strips on the sides and center, unless having to work the slate to correct problems, then the seam gets it as needed.
If you use ratchets straps to hold your seams tight while you're getting them set, you don't need as much glue, and it's easier to remove once you've scored it with a razor blade to break it loose.
Is your slate pinned or not pinned...? That can also determine the process a bit too, since you don't want to lift your slates to help break loose the glue somewhere down the road. Pinned= too much stress on your slate if lifted too high to break loose seams= breaks, cracks, blow outs.
I've seen the playing cards trick, but I don't use it. I like my seams to feel seamless before sealing them up.
